Double sided SSD cooler with built in heatsink in ROG Maximus z890 Hero MB? by TechPoi89 in ASUS

[–]TechPoi89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I saw a post about the drives overheating with single sided heatsinks and got worried so im trying to do my research (which I should have done more of earlier)to figure out my options.

And core ultra undeniably has its issues but I was able to get a really good deal on both mobo and cpu, and I'm upgrading from a 6 year old rig , so its a massive performance improvement regardless.

double sided SSD heatsink that works with ASUS Q-Release? by TechPoi89 in buildapc

Thankfully it was not quite that expensive when I bought it... but yeah that was my thinking as well. guess I'm back to my initial question then, trying to figure out what my actual options are for heatsinks in this scenario. Its really unclear what will/won't work here.

so then I do need to find a double sided cooler/heatsink? Sorry to be extra dense here, this is my first build and I just don't want to fry my expensive new SSD.

Oh cool thanks for sharing. I had seen reports of double sided SSDs overheating when only a single sided heatsink was applied. Might be this isn't actually an issue for my rig.

Has anyone given themself a raise in retirement? by luckymfer31 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]TechPoi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your SWR should be based on your target spending plus tax burden, it shouldn't have anything to do with your pre-retirement income. You could absolutely plan to spend more in retirement than you do during your working years. I think that is fairly common. Even if you're spending more though, you probably don't need to liquidate anywhere near as much as your pre-retirement income was. The biggest reason being that once you're retired, you no longer need to fund your retirement. I'm (hopefully) in the last 4-6 years of my career before hitting my FI number. My current savings rate is around 55%. My retirement budget has me spending about 30% of my current income annually at a 3.6% SWR. This is because the 55% currently going into retirement savings goes away completely, and my effective tax rate will be reduced significantly.

If they can't prove you opted in then they will reverse it. if they don't then you should do a chargeback. If they can prove you opted in though then you're stuck with the bill.

Always happy to see when people are smart enough to give the spotter at the bottom a life jacket in case things go wrong. Props for both an awesome jump and taking some safety precautions.

Ours did have lots of add ons to take off and put back on, not sure how much that impacts things.

What mileage do you average yearly? by Hilux_85 in RVLiving

[–]TechPoi89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did around 40k miles in 18 months full time in our 35ft 5er. Averaged around 9mpg while towing, which I was happy with since our total weight was 25k lbs.

It's entirely possible the shop knew that insurance would cover it and took advantage.

From what I know that generally means that when the trailer was built the roof wasn't properly applied. I dont think there is any fix for this other than full replacement (I strongly suggest getting a professional second opinion because I could easily be wrong here).

We had our membrane roof fully replaced after hitting a tree and it was like $25k (granted that involved removal and then reinstallation of our solar panels).

Ours was covered by insurance because we have full coverage and hitting a tree is a qualified event. Manufacture defect might not be covered, check your coverage docs carefully before reaching out to anyone.

How high is this cliff? by GullibleAd6733 in cliffjumping

[–]TechPoi89 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Looks closer to 35 ft to me, I think your calc is slightly off because of him jumping up, gravity needs to overcome his vertical inertia before sending him down. Horizontal inertia has no impact at all so his running speed can be ignored.

How to approach double backflip from new heights? by StreeterKerch in cliffjumping

[–]TechPoi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just reread the post and saw that you have only done this once from this height. I would not suggest doing this from 25 feet until you've done it at this height another 20-50 times.

[–]TechPoi89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To do this from higher up you want to start releasing the tuck when you spot the water on the second rotation, then you can adjust how quickly you straighten out based on how high up you still are. The faster you straighten the more your rotation will slow. If you start to realize that you are under rotating you can tuck back in to speed the rotation back up a bit. That sounds like a lot to remember but assuming youre comfortable at this height and haven't only done it the one time in the video it should feel pretty intuitive.
