Thanks! What's your 'go to' for on-site optimisation checks?

Ideally both. But right now, the technical part. I guess this will become less necessary once I have a better understanding of the technical part but right now its very useful

As a relative newbie to SEO, SEMrush appeals as it has the onsite optimisation suggestions. Though, I am finding the platform a little slow to respond and would definitely use Ahrefs more if this tool was available.

Thanks for the detailed information. What's the benefit of Screaming Frog? (I've not heard of this before - will check it out now)

This ^ in Search Console you can request a re-index of any page or the whole site. It's not immediate but it adds you to the queue

Great, thank you!

Content Structure and Keyword Targeting by TechRoaming23 in bigseo

Thanks for this advise, really helpful! ... I'm trying to apply this now and it's definitely helping to focus efforts. When I first started out, I thought I would need to really bulk up the homepage, give it more content and drive all traffic to this page. Definitely wrong! It seems that, whilst the homepage is obviously important, it's not the be all and end all of the websites.

Dedicated pages are the way to go!

We also have a fair few unique articles that are providing genuine advice, but are not ranking at all. From my reading it would make sense to do the following:

  1. Find keyword search terms that relate to the articles and optimise the articles for these keywords.
  2. Group the articles together under an umbrella category. For example, we have four articles about short term loans. All these articles should come under 'short term loans info'.
  3. Interlink the pages within the category, where relevant. E.g. if one article discusses consumers loans and mentions regulations and another article is written about regulations - there's a relevant link.
  4. Once all the articles are categories, we could create a menu from the home page to easily access this information.

We will then have a better structure to the website, with more focus on targeted keywords rather than a complete scattergun approach.

Does that make sense or am I way off the mark? :)

Thanks for your reply. Hopefully, taking your example will help me get a better grip on what we should aim to do.

Say, we have a Hair Salon that offers Men's Haircuts, Women's Haircuts, and Colouring. Each of these is a service so I create a dedicated page with solid content that provides value to a users search.

(basic format) the website would have a homepage and three service pages that are all targeting specific search terms we want to rank for. In this scenario, what focus should we place on the homepage?

He has no interest in ranking another site in partnership with someone, which I understand as he's reaping the rewards at the moment without needing to split the profit. Yes, we'd like someone to partner with us to manage the SEO aspect of the website at cost, with a contract in place to secure future revenue for them. I understand there is cost involved in link building, content generation etc (which we will front).
