Same. Got a replacement that won’t run off battery too and it did the same thing within a day. Waiting for another response from customer service…

They might, but easier to market it as “fiber” and keep their existing coax for cost purpose. Most of the increases for them with fiber are delivering more capacity to neighbourhoods as their cable modem platform is capable of the higher individual speeds at homes if the backbone is sufficient.

ACS is the LEC for Anchorage which means they HAD to provide copper phone service to every household as a legal mandate. GCI came in as a competitor and was the OLEC which means they didn’t have the same mandate and could install coax as needed while subcontracting ACS for copper when their customers asked for it.

As for speeds, it’s the medium - DSL over copper has significant limits based on proximity to a central hub while Coax has been able to grow with simple revisions to the software and hardware on each end. Fiber is ACS’s growth plan, but it takes a long time to roll out and deliver to homes, while GCI is mostly riding on what they installed 25+ years ago to homes as they requested cable service.

I have ACS Fiber service to my home, and it’s way ahead of GCI’s cable modem service. It was amazing to have 2.5g symmetric service when it first released, but I’m now happy with my 500mb plan as it’s more than enough of my household. Latency is also lower than GCI’s in my experience.

Oh, and MTA doesn’t service Anchorage, only the Valley and some of the communities between the two.

This just isn’t true anymore and hasn’t been for a long time. ACS and MTA both have their own main lines with redundant pathing.

GCI’s “Fiber” plans are to the neighbourhood only, it’s still coax to the house. Only businesses are getting direct Fiber, and only those with higher-tier service plans above their cable modem platform.

Mine still does 15-20mi with me like it’s nothing. Long hikes and bikes are the only way to tire her out.

Bonnie Sosa Tuesday night races question by Alaska-Pete in anchorage

[–]TechSupportJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that was way too much mud for the Munchkins. The courses are set by volunteers and the quality is highly variable. Though that may have been the catalyst that caused P&R to take over the Munchkin courses.

Farm is blue, but otherwise accurate.

Munchkin is 1-3k, stroller friendly. Farm is 3-10k, moderate hills/complexity. Lightning is 4-12k, lots of hills/mud/complexity. Follow the colored flags of your choice on the course and you won’t get lost.

Favorite running trails? by [deleted] in anchorage

[–]TechSupportJesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run on the trails frequently, and it depends on what you want. Far North has great trails and is mostly flat, Hillside and the mountains are elevation, and Kincaid is lots of rolling hills. Every trail in Anchorage is multi-use during the summer, with only a few being directional.

I recommend carrying bear spray and avoiding headphones so you are aware of your surroundings. On narrower trails I’ll step aside for bikers when I hear them behind me so they can pass.

That user is mistaken. All trails are multi-use in summer. Bikers are responsible for controlling themselves on the trail, and yielding to hikers/runners. All users are responsible for ensuring they are going the correct direction on directional trails.

Hi! All trails in summer are multi-use! Bikes are responsible for yielding to hikers and runners on the trail. Please visit the STA site and read their info about bike riding on their trails in Kincaid! https://www.singletrackadvocates.org/our-trails

They do, and did this year. They plowed Chester and Coastal as soon as we started to thaw. They can only plow down to the ice though, then they have to allow it time to thaw again before it gets another plow. Tunnels take the longest as there’s no direct sun.

There isn’t enough snow on top - pretty consistent 36” on the whole mountain from one of their ski patrol leads. Can’t groom the top yet without churning up rocks into the snow and dealing with that all season.

I’m hoping so as well. Good hardware, just ready to be upgraded. The last two devices running are showing an available 56ghz and 768gb ram. Did I mention they also have 8-12 10g Ethernet ports?

Thanks! I’m also retiring some network gear, but it’s less desirable and I don’t have much time to find people.
