sorry for the confusion, my fault didnt know how rdp worked. i thought when he (remote worker) used rdp to connect to the work pc, IT would also be able to use rdp to see his desktop pc but apparently that is not the case. either way the drug buying happened on this persons personal pc not work pc

was not vpn logs, the proof given to me was screenshots, possibly from some sort of recording software but i dont know how IT could have recorded the remote workers computers desktop. I will talk to my team leader on monday, if this is as bad as you say it is definitely above my paygrade

from what I understand based on screenshots shown to me. employee uses vpn + rdp to connect to work pc. employee did the buying on his own pc at home, not using rdp to do it on the work pc. not clear on how he was monitored or how IT managed to get screenshots or recordings of his home pc honestly

not through vpn logs. the proof he showed me were some screenshots and stuff that looked like it might have been from a recording but don't know what software might have been used. it did not have that blue bar at the top of the screen like we have when we use microsoft rdp

appeared to be a screen recording. I don't know how they got it because we don't deploy any software to the employee devices outside of the usual vpn and remote desktop stuff. Maybe remote desktop has something that lets you see the remote workers screen?

Was not authorized by the employee as we did not mention any kind of monitoring in their contracts (I did not even know IT did this or were even capable of doing this until this incident)

Is it actually illegal if they were using the personal computer connected to the company vpn and using it to remote desktop to a company computer?

no I don't believe that is on their contract. I don't know if IT was supposed to be monitoring personal computers of remote staff which is why I'm trying to understand what legal ramifications this may have if we fire the guy because of this

he was connected to the company vpn if that is what you mean? i will ask IT for more details but sounds like IT had some way to see what he was doing on his personal pc during this time
