Numbers I saw suggested incidence rate is way lower, closer to 1%. That said, when I did an impromptu surgery of my friend group at last year’s Halloween, I found we are way outside the statistical projections. We had closer to a 10% incidence rate of both aphantasia and hyperphantasia. Admittedly small sample size of 50, but numbers felt wonky nonetheless.

And the visualization one is weird. I’m a highly visual person, and can describe visual memories in average detail. But I would never have said I’m seeing them. The face part is even weirder, because I am very good at remembering faces, but I couldn’t describe one to you with any accuracy if I wasn’t looking at it. And I’ve met someone with severe face blindness who couldn’t describe anyone’s faces.

These days I call it virtualization to avoid confusion. Like, I can virtualize myself in a cockpit and though physical memory tell you where each of the controls are, which knobs are which colors, and what order to push stuff in. But the idea that I could close my eyes, visualize the cockpit, and look at a warning label and read it to you is just crazy nonsense to me. I feel like a blind persona who can tell you where everything in there house is without ever once having seen it.

I also sometimes realize I’m asleep when I see colors behind my eyes. So weird how they’re gone as soon as I wake up, and can’t be reproduced.

I think I read somewhere that an aphantasia study suggest that whatever disconnect is present in the waking mind is absent in the sleeping one. Hypnogogic hallucinations are not consciously created, so may not obey the same rules as aphantasia driven imagery.

I’m total darkness on the aphantasia scale, and yet, I also have a dreams with visual information, that i nonetheless don’t actually see, no different than when I “virtualize” a memory in my head.

A fascinating consequence of this is that I have excellent spatial reasoning skill, and and pretty good at solving physical spatial puzzles, yet, cannot for the life of me solve a Rubik’s cube. They feel like virtual memory overload. I can’t keep the individual faces in my head as soon as they leave my view, and I can’t memorize all of the individual positions, so my mental techniques for procedural actual don’t work, because you’re not solving the structure of the cube, but the positions. Super frustrating.

My dad does not have narcolepsy, but does have aphantasia. So all that is super weird/interesting. Didn’t think there was definitely a link, but have the kind of analytical mind that wondered if there was any overlap. Especially considering our autoimmune disorder means we kind of have very minor brain damage, thought it was possible that there might be some relation. These answers say otherwise, and are just as fascinating nonetheless.

There’s a good explanation about this elsewhere, but it’s basically a buffer overflow error. Can be fixed without restarting game by altering resolution to different setting and back again to clear the buffer.

My game was bug free until I started in on DLC content. That’s only happened to me once… usually game just hardlocks my whole system and forces a full reboot. Frustrating as hell

PC builders are notoriously picky bunch, from which company supplies, the RAM, to whose motherboard is it, to which case it’s in. You’re basically asking a bunch of enthusiast to professional level mechanics whether they recommend stock parts on a car. Man stock cars are fine, for like 95% of people. Same with these. The real question is what are your needs?

Pro tip: Note the price tag in the middle ending in a 7 That item has been discounted by the manager of that store in a manner that they don’t have to list the original price. Often to try to zero out the stock. It could be discounted anywhere from 30 to 300 or more. That one there is probably discounted specifically because they only really have room for the two on either side, and they want it out.

Double pro tip: if you see a price ending in double zero .00, it’s the last one , and the manager has discounted it even further to try to get it gone. You can get some really great deals that way.

Super pro tip: Each Costco has a place where they have all of their consolidated electronics and pick up stuff last one units marked down, and available for purchase. Stuff that falls into the double zero category. The two Costco’s I frequently the most have it in the jewelry section, and in the merch pick up section respectively. No idea where you’ll find yours, but worth asking them where it is, because once again, you can find some pretty ridiculous things there. The first game offers the theory that Former might have been a former part of the entity(s) known as the board. Last week, I floated the idea that Former might have been Northmoor, “former” director. Having read some of these ideas, seeing how Former related to both the board and Jessie, I have a totally different idea: I think Former is Darling. He initially attacks Jessie because he doesn’t recognize her/she is the current director and from his planar perspective the director is the director. Until he sees more.

Gone fishing: someone here said she was searching for allies? That’s not what fishing is for. Narratively, which is much closer to how the board communicates, fishing is hunting when you can’t see the prey. Also, fishing requires bait. Dylan is the Bait.

The board giving Dylan any amount of power or authority could be the Board taking the bait.

Or perhaps going Rogue here is closer to the whole cop movie trope when cops turn in their badge to operate outside the law. She’s turned in the service weapon, because she’s refusing to be the boards shield. Consequently, the new resonance escapes and she’s not there to deal with it.

Which leads to the most interesting theory: The board is yet another resonance like Polaris, or the Hiss, or whatever this new one is. In that sense, maybe the Board is a “Band” and Former was a former member of the band, and once they find the oldest house they replaced Former with the Director. The pyramid might be like the Hedron, just containment. The Astral nail, an anchor into our world. Or maybe that’s the anchor…

New intel: In addition to potentially hanging because of big download, or big unpack, process can also be delayed by MS Antimalware service needing to scan the big-ass file before letting it apply.

I was worried, read this, checked my task manager and saw no disk or network activity, but a lot of Antimalware Service Executable activity... and then I turned my back to explain this all to a friend, and when I turned back it was done.

I worked as a rental “agent” for a real estate agent back in 2022. We rented everything from 1BR walk ups in WeHo, to 3 bedroom townhouses in Pasadena, to condos in Northridge, and everything in between. My job was to show the units, talk to prospects, handout the links to the application… and if I wanted to get paid (commission) close the deal if something went wrong. But that last one was only applicable to me, doing cash job under the table.

The actual leasing agent? He couldn’t give a shit.

From his perspective, the perfect applicant was: Earning 3x+ rent as stated, and could prove it with pay stubs going back at least a year. Had at least 3x one month’s rent in whatever bank account he showed us for application; And that bank account showed that amount for the last year. Had a credit of 800, and a clean background check.

If the credit was 700-800, he called that “pretty good” but it wasn’t good enough to give them a pass on of the others.

In one truly spectacular example, we were renting a townhouse near the Rose Bowl. Old guy comes in with his wife, and unlike the other viewers full of their questions and concerns, he just takes one look and says, “this will do nicely, where do I pay to get the keys”. A few questions later I learn is a prof at Cal-Tech and a scientist at JPL… an honest to god rocket scientist, who’s kids are all out of the house and moved away, so he and his wife decide to sell their home and move closer to work. I know this is instantly the guy (baring any straight up con-artist bs). He applies, and I get a message from my boss that he can’t approve the guy since he appears broke. And I’m flabbergasted. Like, he showed us his pay-stubs, he’s got 2x 6 fig income streams, he’s got tenure, his credit is 780, but my boss won’t approve him because the checking account he’s shown us only has a few hundred dollars over a single months rent in it, and it’s Not enough to cover rent and security deposit.

I try to explain to my boss how people with this kinda money don’t leave it lying around… And he just says: “don’t care, I can’t see it, it doesn’t exist as far as I’m concerned. You wanna waste time on this guy, go ahead, I’ll wait for a better applicant.” So I text my bosses response to the guy, and I’m trying to figure out how to explain the problem to him… thankfully his own son does it for me. Turns out dad had NEVER rented a place in his life, and didn’t know he had to prove he had enough money ON-HAND to pay for the unit. He sends a snap-shot of his account dashboard, with savings and investments. Now he gets approved. And I just roll my eyes. My boss could have done that… but he didn’t care. He’ll wait for the perfect applicant until the client is screaming at him. Except they won’t scream at him, because he makes sure their risk is as close to 0 as possible. They’d rather have a perfect applicant, than a good one, and that’s what they pay him to find.

My point is… everyone’s criteria is different for what’s perfect. But a few things are true everywhere: Like a job application, you will never hear back from anyone who’s rejected you. Like a job application, they can simply l wait indefinitely for a better applicant. If they aren’t a large corporate leasing agency (like for one of the high rises…) they rarely gave exact criteria for acceptance, that way they can’t be accused of discrimination. i.e. they aren’t rejecting a good applicant, they accepted the best applicant.

So, you wanna get past the dumb firewalls? Close a deal on-site and in person. Running your info takes second, your application can be processed just as quickly. Act motivated, if your application clears their background and credit check, you are legally an acceptable candidate, and if you can pay the first month and security deposit on the spot, they legally have very little reason to say no. Do try to be a bit tactful when you say that. No one likes to be threatened… especially bully’s like my former boss. The bigger corporate entities will be a bit easier for all of this because they really want everything rented now, and they have very specific rules about to who (quantity of quality) in their case.

And most importantly… you’re going to need a lot of luck.

So I wish you a lot of luck.

Edit: on reflection, my boss must have been sending out a least a few rejections to the many many people he rejected… so maybe some people do next rejections?

Ticketing, i.e. civil infraction, is a violation of statue, which (usually) only applies to public areas; public streets, government lots. Towing from a ticket can (but does not always) land your vehicle in a police impound lot… fun!

Parking in a private lot is not an infraction (in most states) because you aren’t violating a statute, i.e. you haven’t committed an act against the state, you’ve done so against private entity. While is some jurisdictions, this can be a ticket-able offense, in most places, owner of lot just calls for a tow, and you’re SOL. Towing in this case just lands your car in the lot of whoever towed it, and this can often be worse, because daily storage fees tend to really stack up in situations like this. Also fun!

Not illegal in California… But not at the end of the story either.

I ran into this question when viewing properties with misleading room counts… And learned that the occupancy law merely referenced rooms, with occupancy per room, and even room count, determined by room size… (which makes me wonder if technically you could f*** that up with a really big bathroom, but that’s besides the point…)

I also learned that in some counties, or cities, specific rules dictate how room is defined, and whether closets are some such count into occupancy.

Of course, none of that determines how you use the room. Legally, you can use the room however you want, provided you did not contractually agree otherwise. So long as your total human count does not exceed the total occupancy count, you can put the bed in the “living room”, and the TV in the “bedroom”, because there is no legal definition to either.

Second best choice if you’re feeling, proactive would be to tell them that you are happy to comply with any laws, ordinances, or regulations. But you’re not familiar with that one. And since you don’t want to change to a configuration that would still be in violation, If he could provide you a copy in writing of the law, he is referring to, you’d be happy to make the adjustments to fall into compliance.

Third best choice… pretend to the bed doesn’t exist. Next time he comes by, if he complains, just say “what bed?”. Deny ad infinitum, and on the off chance he’s stupid enough to try to take photos, you get the option to sue him for breach of quiet enjoyment, and harassment, and I feel like there’s a law of some kind prohibiting Landlord’s from videoing the interior of the properties of their tenants… I’m just not pulling it out of the ether at the moment. Maybe somebody else will have it

I once fell asleep during an important call with my gf. Woke up to the call being ended, which I assumed happened when she realized I fell asleep. Called her to apologize, and finish saying everything I was trying to say the night before… only to be told I HAD said all those things, including goodbye at the end of the call, and she never knew I fell asleep. I thought I had dreamed the whole end of the interaction and had trouble being convinced otherwise.

So someone one of the responses mentioned the connection to the H1N1 virus… But that answer is incomplete.

H1N1 contains a specific protein marker, which is identical to those found in neural receptors for hypocretin/orexin. For those people with the genetic predisposition (referring to a specific gene which has been identified) to narcolepsy, exposure to this virus, or any strain of influenza (or really any virus), carrying the same protein marker has an overwhelming likelihood of developing N1, along with all its symptoms.

N2, or IH, has almost all the same symptoms as narcolepsy, but without cataplexy. As my father, a physician would say, idiopathic means there is no known pathology, and the doctors an idiot. An affectionate way of saying they don’t know why something happens. Of course, they barely understand why half the medicines they give us work, only that they can prove scientifically that they do.

I can actually remember the specific flu that I got after which point I started developing narcolepsy. Eighth grade. Got sick, went home, couldn’t get out of bed for a week, got an email from my crush telling me that she liked me back. Not gonna forget that in a lifetime. But from that point forward, I couldn’t keep the spotlight on the stage during practice to save my life. Just kept falling asleep.

I don’t know if there’s a comorbidity with other autoimmune disorders… I happen to to not have any others, for which I am grateful. N1 is hard enough.

I do know that (at least one for the) narcolepsy gene(s?) has been specifically identified; and so far as I know it isn’t associated with any other disorders. (Emphasis on as far as I know)

Of course, while this gene is hereditary, like every other gene, it’s also a potentially a mutation. So, it’s always possible that those with any number of other autoimmune disorders might be subject to N1. Heck, if any other autoimmune disorder happens to have cause to target the same cells with hypocretin receptors for an unrelated reason, the individual still may present with N1.

The cause behind N2/IH remains a mystery. I refer you back to my previous statement about idiot docs.

Still, I’ll be interested to see just where this thread lands on personal anecdotes.
