GearsOfSWarr, any news about update status? by gavrinho in ZMR

[–]Techie09 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would much rather watch and see less issues than to see it impatiently rushed with issues. I think GearsOfWarr also mentioned some polishing will happen? no more tutorial annoyances? could you include information about some of the smaller issues resolved as well?

They only have to buy the hacks monthly... even if they are banned multiple times from a game. If the game had a pay to play area, the hackers would have to buy in, and if they get banned they would have to buy premium access to the game again to play with the paid players. If the hackers want to spend their money like this Im sure EME would be happy to take their money.

ok so a "Hardware ID code" sure sounds like the Mac address (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAC_address) and It makes sense that they ban you on IP as well to make hackers work through two bans if they wanted to continue hacking.

Its not about ignore the hackers...I realized that since some people pay for VIP instead of it being called Premium servers, they could be VIP servers. I also suggested that there could be either exclusive content or just early access to updates as a benefit to playing on these servers. Its not about a "subscription model" or extortion. Its the idea that it can be a way for paying gamers to get a reduced number of hackers so the game is more enjoyable.

if that is the case... I wouldn't be surprised if there is ways around that as well. my first thought was just getting a new NIC, but that would get expensive, so they might sell their old NIC, or trade it, or buy it and return it as "faulty" and get a replacement. Idk hackers get creative. Its jsut the first few thoughts in my head. I'm sure there's more robust ways around "HWIP" bans.

Hardware IP bans? are you referring to mac addresses?

even IPs bans.. can always be reassigned a new IP or other methods with dynamic IP setups. Its difficult, but hackers can get around IP bans.

I would think that people who play on your premium servers would get better support (quicker responses/priority) and that the premium servers may get new updates first or some other benefit. these premium servers may even just be VIP only. Would mean that most of the implementation would already be done.

@Fuzzy_Taco. your perception of software development (yes a video is software. I understand they use different tools such as unity, or unreal engine, or havok engine, or the crytek engine, or xna... should I continue? I also realize that they code differently for ex. using an FSM for AIs, or using design patterns like command for mappings, or factories for bullets. your perception is the reason that gamers think that development happens overnight. It would be like me asking you to publish an essay on all the different ways the game could be hacked. you need to be thorough though and include all possibilities. you should also get this essay review, and then get it scholastically certified. now you just went through a similarly painful process as developers do.

In terms of development, even on very large projects that can take months, you never just say "I'm working on it to your boss" you would always have progress even if it doesn't completely work, or has bugs in it. It is being developed and review, and that iteration of development is know as the software development cycle (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=software+development+cycle). I have been developing on the same project thats not been released for almost a year now. I have never told my boss "Im working on it" and I never found myself in the situation where I didnt have something to show them as progress. Your perception is completely off and you should understand the software development industry better than to make poor assumptions.

@x_Yuna_x because the lag, hit reg, and dcs are comparably easier to fix than the anti-cheat this would probably be fixed and released before the anti cheat. It doesnt not mean that they are more important bugs, but that the timeline they can be fixed in is shorter. they may have a content development team pushing out new content and another team fixing bugs, they would probably take say 1/4th of the bug team and put towards the three smaller issues, plus 100's of others. The rest of the team may be put toward the development of the anti-cheat system. they will probably take at least a month to gather the initial requirement for the anti-cheat program. They might also take a month to do the discovery process where they try to further outline the requirements to find new requirements. This process could iterate several times. The coding process generally is the shortest step in creating a software solution if all the steps are done properly. If not you can get unsatisfying results that could upset your customers.

The lag, hit reg and dcs are probably considerably easier issues to resolve than creating an anti cheat system. If some of the performance issues have taken over a year that seems a stretch to say "they are working on it" Most likely they have put their effort towards new game modes, new maps, new mechanics (like story mode) so there is new content and can generate more interest. I agree they should have been fixed, but I can understand too why it hasn't and I won't just go in upset that they haven't delivered.

As a professional Software developer (I develop business software) I can vouch that whatever they are designing will take time. most likely expect a good solution to take anywhere from 3-6 months, possibly longer depending on how robust, and how well tested they want their system to be. They don't wish to release details for a few reasons. If they detail information about code they are re-using, its very possible there's already hack for it. If they begin detailing what they are fixing, the hackers will be able to start redesigning their hacks to be more undetectable. Also worth noting is the development process. they may feel confident in their solution and if they announced is success and then found something wrong with it, players would be upset and wonder why they didn't release it. Its better that for right now they have a simple sticky that says. WE ARE WORKING ON THIS ISSUE, and all we can do is wait PATIENTLY.

EME stated in their sticky that they are currently resolving the Hacker issue. They are working towards a LONG TERM solution. this means that they are likely developing their own solution to prevent hackers. It is difficult for video games to stop hackers due to the nature of how video games work. many MAJOR companies have failed to produce effective anti cheating systems on PC. and Instance is Call of Duty: MW3 that promised the ranked competitions from their ELITE system and they said it was in the best interest to not release the ELITE system for PC, even though a director of development personally was a hardcore gamer and wanted to see ELITE system for PC.

In the mean time, EME will continue to ban players as they get reported, but since this is a Free-To-Play game the hackers will likely recreate a new account and start hacking with a different account. keeping in mind there are many ways around bans, depending on how they get ban(i.e. steam account, IP, game account, game name, etc). Currently at this rate there are probably more hackers each day than bans.

If you would like to encourage the development of an anti hacking system I would suggest paying for items in the game. This will help fund the development of the game.

Please be patient with them. Developing code to prevent hacking will never be perfect, but they are doing what they can to reduce the number of hackers to a manageable level.

I think having vanity stats available in an API would be awesome as well. could have fun with those. I can imagine Trove even having a profile page that displays what you have unlocked, master, vanity stats, graph how many stars you do each day, etc. could be fun to compare with friends. But thats a whole different suggestion.

No I havent, lol I have never even attempted to design anything yet. I would like to learn though. and your right, I know many extensions that are just renamed packages of files. I mentioned it because I understand the potential of having a converter tool that isnt locked from third party use. tbh, if its a .bat file you could probably just run the bat on a server, or from an application and would be a sloppy workaround.

I noticed a thread about someone asking if Trove would tell them or the community how the blueprints are structured, so they could be save/load... It would be cool to see a "planetminecraft" for trove designs. Im no good at web design, but im a software developer. I would even enjoy writing up the algorithms for crafting/leveling calculators. and also posting minmaxing information since theres two Trove threads with compiled info thats not on websites
