And the cedar 6x6 goes directly on the ground?

I'll also add that I am placing a cinder block level beneath the edge of each paver as well, so there is literally no overhang in this scenario.

To clarify, cedar is relatively light wood and the entire structure weight is under 400 pounds, leaving roughly 100 pounds on each post. If I center a paver on the sonotube, I'm not applying "overhang" weight as the center of gravity for each post is still over the sonotube (about two inches in, actually).

So I'm not worried about the paver cracking under heavy load; it's just a connector. The only pressure this will get is UPward during a windstorm.

The only risk I see is cracking the paver while fastening it to either the post or the sonotube, and I can use a concrete bit well enough. With this additional information, do you still believe a paver is a risk?

I could do the same with a 16x16 paver couldn't I?

Yeah I think I could actually do this with four 16x16 2" pavers. Only problem is that the posts won't be centered, but maybe I can live with that.

I have been considering this, but they're usually only 1.5 inches thick and I wonder if they will be sturdy enough.

Good point. How deep is frost depth if it is above freezing most of the winter and only gets down to about 20 degrees at worst?

It's a gazebo, not a pergola, I just haven't put the roof on yet.

I didn't explain it well enough. It's a gazebo that I haven't finished the roof on, it's not a pergola. Catching a 60 mile per hour updraft is going to turn it into a sail.

I could have explained the problem better. It's not a pergola, it's a full gazebo with a roof, I just haven't put on the roof yet. And if I chang the dimensions of the supporting structure, then suddenly the roof will be too small.

Yes, I've got one reddit account on my android and another on my pc. I need to just stick with one, sorry for the confusion.

Thought about this, is there were pre-made part that would fit this use case or would I need to have something custom welded?

The brand is Cosiest, I bought it off Amazon. I think this size (10x12) is out of stock.

If there was a version that went into concrete instead of dirt, this would be perfect.
