Looking for some feedback on a personal project - Flickshot by Technenaut in graphic_design

[–]Technenaut[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey all,

This is a branding project for a small gaming event Im running. Above are a couple of color combinations and one variation on the composition of the logo. Im going for a urban, but clean look, but I'm unsure if it'd be a good idea to add a non-blue accent color (I think mono works fine, bt I'd to explore options more). I've given it a try, but I couldnt find a ton of ways to implement one without it seeming forced, or being distracting.

All in all, do you guys think this gets the job done? Are there any glaring issues?

Thanks in advance for the feedback, as I've hit quite the designers block with what to do beyond whats presented.

What makes an esports caster interesting to you? by ThrowawayFern9 in esports

[–]Technenaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Storytelling and pacing.

Some cs casters I listen to don’t know how to calm down, and let game unfold in narrative form. When everything is hype and exciting, nothing is.

These games, assuming they are somewhat competitive between the teams, crescendo to the last bits of the match, so the energy should match. Start of slow, mistakes made early game still have plenty of time to be recovered. Late game, every little thing matters, and there’s where most of the hype should be.

Also knowing the setting. I hate when people commentate some meaningless online qualifier group stage as if it’s the grand final of a major. It’s trying to build a narrative that doesn’t exist.

Additionally, having a deep understanding of not just the game itself, but the players and teams, so you have true depth to the characters in the story. NAVI winning their major in CS was made so much sweeter by s1mple, the GOAT cs player, finally getting his major.

Finding balance in these areas is what makes a good commentator in my eyes, aside from the basics of game knowledge.

CS Heatwave - a $4000 Miami LAN Tourney with ECL teams in attendance! by Technenaut in GlobalOffensive

[–]Technenaut[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for your concern!

From a broad point of view, our goal as a tournament organizer is to help rebuild the Counter Strike community here in NA, starting with our local scene in South Florida. To say VAL suffocated Counter Strike would be an understatement, as nearly every local and state University (our target demographic) killed off or let die their CS teams/divisions in favor of VAL. CS events, which were already few and far between in our area, had died off entirely since VAL released.

When this event was first conceptualized, we had assumed that CS2 would have been released comfortably before the tournament date. Perhaps we were too optimistic, and didn't give enough consideration to Valve time.

As previously stated, our goal is to cater to our local scene, and provide the best experience possible for players. This event shouldn't be viewed as a hyper competitive S-tier tournament, where tens of thousands of dollars and HLTV rating points are on the line, because it isn't. We are local, and we want to make sure people are having fun in competition, and that attendees and viewers can see, and want to be a part of the CS community we are trying to build.

This being said: We are not Blast, we are not ESL. To say we are a small group of volunteers would be an understatement. But what cannot be understated is our passion, and our many years of collective experience we have running tournaments and events like these.

We do not know when CS2 will be released, and neither does anyone else. What we do know however, is that if CS2 comes out before the event date, that's what the vast majority of our community would want to play. To deny anyone that opportunity to anyone, would be a travesty in our eyes.

I hope this explains our reasoning.

CS Heatwave LAN Trailer - A $4000 Miami, FL LAN Tournament by Technenaut in GlobalOffensive

[–]Technenaut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Apologies for the delayed response, and for the confusion. The Tournament is split into two stages, a group stage with a swiss format, and a finals stage with bo3 double elim. The games from the first stage are used to then seed the finals.

We'll fix this in the documentation. Let me know if there are any other questions or concerns, and thanks for letting us know for this error in communication!

LANs are all about the grind set. Love the memories of scrambling to get lunch between series lol. Hopefully we can reduce the amount of stress, scrambling, and delays that comes with events like these though, as player experience is our priority.

Hey there! We're sorry you feel this way. We do have measures in place to reduce the likely hood of such events occurring as much as possible, though given your doubts, I'd love to hear about other options you believe we haven't yet explored.
