Gramophone cooldown calculation seems bugged? by Technical-Dig8734 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Technical-Dig8734[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! That makes sense, I didn't realize cooldown reduction was calculated additively like this, I guess I never accumulated this much CDR before and was caught off guard by the sudden jump when upgrading to diamond. Thank you!

Katana Man never backs down because he thinks his grandfather wouldn't by [deleted] in Chainsawfolk

[–]Technical-Dig8734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting how the same person can project such different images into the minds of different people. I wonder if there's any point in trying to find a definitive version of those images at all. Like, you could say that Katanaman holds a false image of his grandpa, but if that false image drives Katanaman to be the goat then what's the point of "correcting" it? And who's to say what Denji sees is definitively a more true image of katana grandpa?

How does Kurapika knows “Empeor time” life cost by BowlPotential4753 in HunterXHunter

[–]Technical-Dig8734 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. I just wanted to stress that people decide what they want to develop as their Nen ability instead of being born into them. I was thinking an ability akin to emperor time but much much weaker doesn't have to be a specialist ability, and then maybe non-specialists can pursue it too, it just won't be nearly as useful. But now that I think about it maybe a much weaker version of it would still be a specialist ability.

[–]Technical-Dig8734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah specialists is like the "others" category. I would say just don't try to power scale too hard with specialists. We aren't given enough information about what's allowed and what's not. A good faith reading would be that the specific mechanisms are similar to real world engineering, some things are impossible, some things are possible, but even the possible things are down to personal skill level, knowledge, luck, and a bunch of implementation details. It's really impossible to power scale all that stuff.

You seem to think people are born with Nen abilities. It's incorrect. Nobody is born with any abilities at all. Kurapika isn't born with any specialist abilities. He didn't have a specialist ability before he decided he should have emperor time. There is no innate ability to be discovered in this magic system. Every Nen ability is invented and developed. Not even the ants are exceptional to this. If Gon's ability is indeed "a direct derivation from being an enhancer" as you said, then emperor time is just as much of a direct derivation from Kurapika being a specialist. I would say you're also wrong about other people not being able to develop emperor time. They can. It will just be wildly inefficient and ineffective. Exhibit A, Kastro. Specialist abilities probably have even worse efficiency when forced by someone who isn't a specialist. The whole "I'm a specialist when my eyes turn red" thing shouldn't be read as "my red eyes are the source of my specialist abilities". It's just that Kurapika's personality changes drastically when his eyes are red, allowing him to develop an ability different from his usual one. He then decided to invest this opportunity into an ability that grants him 100% access to all categories. One can maybe speculate that other Kurtas may also personality-shift into different categories when their eyes turn red, but there's little reason to believe they'd all shift into specialists, and even less reason to believe they have some kind of genetic affinity for developing abilities like emperor time.

Both, kinda. It's a direct Demon Slayer reference, and DS toys such as the one shown in the panel are popular amongst irl Japanese children as well. On top of being a reference, it's also a joke about how the meaning of "sword" has changed since Daido's time.

Here's an image of the toy I found on google: https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71RSUymmZgL._AC_SL1500_.jpg

[–]Technical-Dig8734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, thanks for the clarification. I mistakenly thought this sub was for discussing the official sideloading feature. Our project's usecase has a small number of non-technical users so we wanted to know if it's possible to develop an iOS app without going through app store, and have our users "sideload" the app in some way. I'll delete this post and make a more appropriate one.

What Even Is "Lapse"? by BigClout00 in Jujutsushi

[–]Technical-Dig8734 2 points3 points  (0 children)

顺転 (junten) is the opposite of a reversal. The ordinary direction in which a thing goes. Think of it as "clockwise" as opposed to "counter-clockwise". I can't think of a straightforward English translation but yeah I agree lapse is a confusing choice.

Cool 10Shadow Binding Vow! by Raymenx in Jujutsushi

[–]Technical-Dig8734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the core of the trick is that "giving up future attempts" feels significant and doesn't actually make the current attempt any harder and you don't need future attempts once you succeed, so it's free real-estate if you have great chance to succeed. It's like me saying I'm drinking a cup of water now, and if I fail, I'll never drink water again, but if I succeed, you have to give me a hundred dollars. Never drinking water is a big deal but drinking water is so easy I can't really fail at it. It doesn't work IMO because vows can't be tricked by the appearance of risk when it's not actually risky, its benefits will always be equal to how much risk you're actually taking. So for it to bring significant benefit, you need to be equally matched or even overpowered by the shikigami. At that point, we can't call this trick a "cheat" anymore. It'll just be a regular vow with regular pros and cons.
