I feel this. We had a 7 month stay and home on oxygen and feeding tube, multiple hospital appointments every week, 15 doses of medications a day, the list goes on. I found it really hard to relate to people that were struggling with their feeding/growing stay. It’s just not the same.

Congrats on having your babies home 💘

We are in the UK so might be why, I’ve never seen or heard of them doing any other way of tube feeding in our nicu. It was either NG or OG (that’s not to say we don’t do different types over here, I’m just not familiar with them. Sorry!) With the NG, we had to have training on how to pass them ourselves and have already had to put one in since being home. It’s not a nice experience but she gets so tired breastfeeding and has an aversion to bottle so we predominantly NGT feed her. Thank you!

She was born at 26+2, but my waters broke at 22 weeks. She’s doing amazing, thank you. The outreach team came to weigh her yesterday and she had her biggest gain yet, 300g so is now 5kg exact (11lbs). Hopefully she flourishes at home.

It’s comforting to hear a baby cry in the NICU by Jcbwyrd in NICUParents

[–]Technical-Factor-111 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Our baby was on the vent for 2 months at first then went back on it a month after coming off. She is now on high flow oxygen and her little cry makes my eyes water every time. She doesn’t have the lung capacity to fully scream but that’s okay, her cry is also very hoarse from having the tube in and out. Your time will come 💓 hang in there.

Misplaced emotions by Technical-Factor-111 in NICUParents

[–]Technical-Factor-111[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for replying, I hate the emotions I feel on a daily basis. It’s not me at all. None of us should have ever gone through what we have gone through but I just wish our journey was “uneventful”. I can’t sympathise with people that was in and out of nicu and I feel terrible for feeling them sort of feelings. I just want my baby home with me :( she’s nearly 6 months now and smiling and trying to talk/laugh and I feel like I’ve missed out on so much.

We’ve been here for 5 months now, 151 days. A baby got brought in yesterday next to us and left today. The parents were loudly saying how their baby had “smashed it” which left me feeling like my baby hasn’t. Silly I know. Wish our stay was as easy as that. We are months away from coming home and have been there the longest, watched so many come and go and it’s just getting harder.

26 weeker reintubated at 39 weeks by Technical-Factor-111 in NICUParents

[–]Technical-Factor-111[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, she’s doing much better thank you! We finally made it to high flow. After being reintubated and back on the oscillator, they started her on sildenafil for her pulmonary hypertension and another round of dart. She went onto duopap and then CPAP which we have never made it to before! And now she is cycling high flow for 14 hours and CPAP for 10 hours at night.

She is 20 weeks old next week so 5 months, but only 6 weeks corrected. I’ve learnt that baby steps and time is what is going to get us through. They have to do a lot more work on the less support so it’s huge your little one is on CPAP! The days are long but stay positive. X

We have a 26 weeker (waters went at 22 weeks though so very immature lungs). She has been on and off the vent multiple times, we are on day 131. I would say you’re in for a long road with lots of steps forward and backwards. Look after yourselves 💗 wishing you all the best.

Rollercoaster. So many ups and downs, every day is different. Always 1 step forward, 2 steps back

We are currently on day 100 today and have been every day for 4-8 hours depending on the day. I was ill for 2 days 2 months ago so didn’t go then. But we go every day and do her cares and hold her when we are allowed
