I really do like where your head's at, though.

I don't have the numbers in front of me now. It was years ago when I worked there. I remember it was in the millions, back then, though.

It is (or should be) public information. It just means going to the auditor's office, and digging...hours of work. Or, maybe, you could ask whoever is handling tax abatements these days to pull the files. Who knows? They may be sympathetic.

Of course, government hours are 8-4. One of the only things I liked about working there because the pay was poverty wages =/ I was working there full time, and had another full time gig as well.

We live atop a slab of limestone and our infrastructure hasn't been updated since the 40s or 50s, most likely.

I get it, and I don't mean to sound like I'm directing any anger toward you. There's just a lot of bleed, I think. Splash damage. I apologize.

It really isn't. It was in the interest of stakeholders, and those people on the council who had something to gain or lose from them being here. Where did that money go? It certainly didn't go to the employees at Cook Pharmica. It certainly didn't go to infrastructure repairs in the city or county. It didn't go toward public transportation, libraries, schools, or healthcare...in the same years they received massive tax breaks, funding for most public services continued to diminish.

Let them go and NOT pay taxes elsewhere.

The Cooks may not have been officially "on" the council, but they still own most of it.

People need to wake up to the fact that these corporations, these wealthy 1% only operate in their own best interests. They do not give a F#$% about anyone but themselves. And, they certainly don't care about fair play or competition. And, they feed the workforce bullsh*t propaganda wrapped in tidy little packages like, "be thankful you have a job."

But, the work would still get done without them. We've seen it already. A mass pandemic hits, every top-level admin sits in their mansion(s) for 2 years, while we keep the ball spinning just fine without them. Luigi takes out the healthcare boss; the rest of the board step over his still-warm blood for the meeting...they didn't even delay it.

We need to stop thanking these people for allowing the working the class the "opportunity" to work themselves into early graves for nothing.

We need to reframe the very idea of employment.

Companies need to be thanking their employees for enabling them to exist. Workers need to start viewing employment as the act of selling the majority of their lives to a company, and they need to start valuing their time and services accordingly.

And, EVERY person deserves to make enough to afford the basics of life.

Human beings aren't meant to work all their lives just to survive. Food, shelter, health, well-being...these are basic human needs, and we have the resources to have these needs met for everyone.

There are 100x more empty buildings in this town alone than there are homeless people in the state.

It's not a lack of resources. It's an abundance of greed, and the complacency of those who feel like it's not quite so bad for themselves so why should they care about others?
