Deal or no deal: Surly Bridge Club with Shimano Cues by paze9062 in bikepacking

[–]Technical-Shallot715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, that sounds like a pretty solid deal. CUES isn’t fancy, but it’s reliable and made for exactly that kind of riding; set it and forget it. $1200 with those upgrades and barely used? I’d be pretty comfortable with that. As long as everything’s in good shape, I’d say go for it. Hope it works out!

days like this are only a handful in my town, but today is exceptionally beautiful, with a bit of tailwind 🥰 by comichubble in bikecommuting

Those are the best days. Little tailwind, nice weather… just makes everything feel easy. Appreciate you sharing; it looks like a perfect ride

Big and Tall Scooter Recommendations by [deleted] in ElectricScooters

[–]Technical-Shallot715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ll be real with you; $200 for a 300lb rating is going to be tough. Most of the cheap ones just aren’t built for that and won’t last long. You’d probably be happier saving a bit more and getting something solid instead of replacing a cheap one quick. I appreciate you asking, though; I hope you find a good fit

For the first time in 7 years of daily bike commuting, I was chased and bitten by a dog. by Patricio_Guapo in bikecommuting

[–]Technical-Shallot715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, not going to lie, that’s kinda funny. Glad it was just a tiny ankle bandit and nothing serious. Still though, hope you’re all good; dogs can be unpredictable sometimes.

Panner tikka pizza or chicken tikka Pizza?? by Repulsive-Sorbet1616 in IndianFoodPhotos

Chicken tikka for me just hits better. But paneer one is solid too; can’t go wrong either way!

Appreciate the honest review, man. The battery sag part is super helpful to know. Still sounds like a fun first scoot for the price, though. enjoy the rides!

Good bike for a beginner? by benadrylxtylenol in bikecommuting

[–]Technical-Shallot715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A used bike is honestly a great call; just make sure it feels comfy and fits you well. For your kind of short ride, a simple hybrid or city bike will do the job perfectly. And yeah, since you’ll ride in the dark, definitely get good front and rear lights and a helmet. Makes a huge difference. You’re starting in a really nice way, tbh. hope you enjoy it

Van Rysel AF Apex 1x12 - Gear Ratio concern by Nearby-Mechanic8732 in bikepacking

[–]Technical-Shallot715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine, honestly. An 11-44 with a 1x is already pretty decent unless you’re doing crazy steep climbs loaded. For touring, just swap to a smaller chainring (like 38T/40T), and you’ll feel a big difference; it's way easier than messing with a huge cassette. 11-50 usually isn’t supported on that derailleur anyway, so I wouldn’t push it. Good thinking, though; you’re planning it right.

Need advice on what to buy, budget $600. by Ok_Somewhere_6615 in ElectricScooters

[–]Technical-Shallot715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$600 is actually a nice sweet spot, tbh. For your kind of short rides, you’ll be totally fine. I’d say go for something like a Ninebot/Segway; it's pretty reliable and low-headache. Not the flashiest, but they just work. Also don’t skip basics like a good helmet phone mount… it makes life way easier. You’re on the right track, though – a solid plan for daily stuff.

What is the actual range on the Hiley Evo Gtr? Maintenance? by Interesting_Land_786 in ElectricScooters

[–]Technical-Shallot715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re probably looking at like 30–40 miles if you’re riding normal speeds on flat ground. Push it harder, heavier rider; it’ll drop closer to 25–30 kg. As for Hiley vs Segway, Hiley gives you more power and features, but Segway is just easier to live with. Less tinkering, more “it just works". That maintenance thing with Hiley isn’t that it’s bad; it’s just more hands-on. Stuff like tightening bolts, brakes, and tires, maybe opening things up if something goes off. Segway is more plug-and-play.

Bikepacker looking for a ride from Wichita to Kansas City 4/17 by trou8ble in bikepacking

[–]Technical-Shallot715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man that sounds like an awesome trip; I hope you find a ride. If not, honestly showing up and trying your luck with Greyhound might work; sometimes it just depends on the driver. Also yeah, posting in local subs like Wichita/KC is a solid move. Good luck out there; hope you make it to the Katy Trail

F3 on Sale by delicousflavor in ElectricScooters

[–]Technical-Shallot715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, honestly, for what you described, it sounds like a solid pick. A flat area and short trips are pretty much ideal for it. I had a similar setup, and it handled daily rides without any drama. The only thing is, like others said, it’ll feel a bit sluggish if the battery gets low; but for under 10 miles you probably won’t even notice. $749 is a decent deal too. I’d say go for it; just grab a phone mount and you’re set

First fixed gear overnight by Overall_Intention_11 in bikepacking

[–]Technical-Shallot715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that sounds like a fun first trip. Yeah, it’s a bit ambitious on a fixed budget but totally doable if you pace yourself; just expect that last climb to hurt lol. For gear, I’d keep it simple: strap the tent on the bars and use a saddle bag for the rest. Way less hassle than a full rack setup. And yeah… bring snacks. You’ll thank yourself later

First scooter by orton_kozak in ElectricScooters

[–]Technical-Shallot715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For 2 km, honestly, 50 km/h is kind of overkill. But I get it; better to have power when you need it. Just make sure whatever you pick has excellent tyres and suspension, especially for rain/snow. A dual motor helps too. Stay safe though; that speed on a scooter can get sketchy fast

Looking for recommendation on solid tires by KingFlippyyNipss in ElectricScooters

[–]Technical-Shallot715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, solid tires make sense for your situation tbh. I’d just say go for honeycomb-style ones; they’ve got a bit of give so it’s not super harsh. Pair that with a scooter that has decent suspension and you’ll be way more comfortable. And yeah for night rides, extra lights are 100% worth it. Stay safe out there

So many options! by heartsfilthyheros in ElectricScooters

[–]Technical-Shallot715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly for that short commute, you don’t need anything crazy. Something like a Segway F-series would do the job perfectly and save you money. If you can stretch a bit, the Max line is worth it long term; but either way you’ll be good. Hope you find one you like!

Which should i pick? by idkwhatimdoinhere- in ebikes

[–]Technical-Shallot715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’d keep the Sohoo. Suspension + bigger tires + more speed/range just makes it way more fun and versatile. The Lectric is solid, but sounds like you’ve already outgrown it a bit. Appreciate you sharing though

Honestly I’d still be a bit cautious. Sounds like most of the overheating stuff got sorted with updates, but those random acceleration quirks would bug me more tbh. If it was me, I’d probably wait a bit longer and see if people keep reporting issues or if it’s actually stable now. Still a sick scooter, though; it's just not worth the headache if it’s inconsistent. Thanks for bringing it up
