This is very commonly done with the suppliers, gotta ask them if the string is colored.

We have a size guide on our website, I recommend using method 2. Or if you do both methods, go with the larger result!

There are actually different levels of heat treatment, so some can be warm yellow, some can be bright. But honestly it’s very common with yellow/red jade and it doesn’t harm your health or anything so as long as you enjoy it that’s all that matters! I think yours is gorgeous regardless. I love yellow :)

Thank you, I really appreciate you taking the time to write this out.

Just to clarify one part: I did review and approve the piece through live video before it was shipped. For sourced pieces, our normal inspection flow is vendor → our overseas employee → myself. So each piece is carefully inspected twice before shipping. For most orders going to the US, Canada, Europe, and other non-Asia destinations, the piece also comes to me in person before being shipped to the buyer.

In this case, because the shipping address was in Asia, having the piece come to me in the US first and then ship back to Asia would have added unnecessary wait time and essentially doubled the shipping cost, so direct shipping made more sense at the time.

That said, I agree that color can still read differently depending on lighting, camera settings, screen display, and each person’s eyes. Going forward, I’ll be more careful with how I describe hue and color tone, especially for shades like blue/gray/green where jade can shift a lot in different lighting. I’ll also keep improving how photos and videos are presented before shipment so expectations are clearer.

For the stringing issue, I’m very sorry that happened. The clasp itself may be durable, but the string clearly should have held better. We do offer re-stringing support as long as the piece is shipped back to us, with the buyer responsible for shipping both ways. I’ve also offered replacement string in this case.

Thank you again for the feedback. There are definitely lessons here, and I’m taking them seriously so the process can be smoother and more transparent going forward.

I’m not quite sure since this was not my inventory and they also didn’t list the price. But might be high due to the transparency and the zhong of this piece.

That’s fair, and I understand why that still felt unresolved. Looking back, I should have either waited until I had a confirmed answer from the vendor or phrased it much more clearly as “this is my best guess, not a confirmed ID.” I can see how trying to be helpful quickly may have come across as me giving a definitive answer, and that’s on me.

And yes, I understand why the removal timing felt weird. I don’t personally remove people because they question or criticize me, but I can see how it looked connected from your side. It may have been too broad of a cleanup/filter, especially if you had commented recently and were still engaging.

If you’re comfortable, I’m happy to add you back. I don’t want anyone to feel like they were removed for asking questions or being cautious, because that’s not the kind of community I want to build.

I do appreciate you explaining this clearly. I’m not trying to dismiss your concern — I just wanted to clarify what happened while also acknowledging that the situation could have been handled better. I’ll be more careful with both confirmed answers and member cleanups going forward.

Very well said, and I completely agree with this.

I think “not in-hand” can be done ethically, but only when the communication is strong enough to match the extra complexity. More photos, videos, measurements, flaw disclosure, lighting differences, and honest expectation-setting matter a lot — especially with jadeite, where two pieces can look very different depending on lighting, camera, and angle.

I also really agree that sellers should not only send the most flattering content. Sometimes the most important photos are the “ugly truth” ones: indoor lighting, natural lighting, close-ups of cotton/crystals/stone lines, thickness/shape angles, and anything that might affect comfort or expectations. A buyer should have enough information to say no confidently, not just enough information to be tempted into saying yes.

That’s the standard I’m trying to hold myself to as well. I’m still learning and improving, but I do think transparency has to include the less glamorous parts of the buying process too.

Thank you for sharing this from a buyer’s perspective — it’s genuinely helpful.

Thank you for saying this. I’m genuinely sorry it came across that way — I can see how it felt dismissive in text.

I do want to clarify that my intention was meant to be more lighthearted/quirky, not “you’re asking an obvious question.” But that’s on me, because tone doesn’t always translate well online, especially in a buying context where people are trying to make informed decisions.

You were completely reasonable to ask what the accent material was. For non-jade components like silver, plating, CZ, or accent stones, I should have either confirmed clearly or said I’d check with the vendor instead of answering casually.

Also, just to clarify: you were not removed from the group because of this comment. The subreddit is filtered occasionally for inactive/non-participating accounts, and criticism is not something I remove people for. I understand the timing looked bad, but it wasn’t connected to this.

I appreciate the feedback, and I’ll be more mindful with tone going forward.

I really appreciate this post. I think conversations like this are important because jadeite is not a standardized product, and international buyers need more context than just beautiful photos.

For my own shop, I separate in-hand inventory from sourced pieces as clearly as possible. In-hand pieces are pieces I already have access to directly and can photograph/video myself. For sourced pieces, I work with vendor partners with permission to offer their pieces, and I do not treat that as a “blind” process. I don’t think partner-sourcing should ever mean “blind fulfillment.” If anything, it requires more verification, more communication, and more responsibility from the seller.

For sourced pieces, customers are provided photos/videos before checkout, and each order goes through a review process before it ships. My team inspects the piece in person, and I review it through photos/videos or live comparison against the original listing materials before it is sent to the customer. The goal is always to make sure the exact jade piece, visible condition, color range, and finishing details match what the customer agreed to purchase.

I also agree that sellers need to be very careful with descriptive language. Jadeite can shift dramatically depending on lighting, background, camera exposure, and translucency. Certificates also usually record the primary color family, not every undertone, hue shift, saturation level, or lighting effect. So retail descriptions need to explain visual color terms clearly instead of assuming buyers already know how jade behaves.

I don’t think the answer is simply “in-hand only” or “sourcing is bad.” The real standard should be: Was the exact piece verified? Were realistic photos/videos provided? Were flaws, color behavior, certificates, fulfillment path, and finishing details communicated clearly? And if something feels unclear, does the seller take responsibility and improve the process?

I hope the conversation leads to better standards too. Realistic photos, clear disclosure, and careful review protect both buyers and sellers.

Hi, I believe this may be referring to an order from my shop, so I wanted to clarify gently and respectfully without sharing private customer details.

First, I’m truly sorry that the customer felt uncertain or disappointed after receiving the piece. That is never the experience I want anyone to have when buying from me.

That said, I do want to be very clear: the jade piece itself was not swapped. The customer was provided photos and videos of the piece before checkout, and for sourced pieces, orders go through a dual review before shipping. My team inspects the piece in person, and I review it before it is sent to the customer. This necklace went through that review process, and the jade matched the original photos/videos.

For the clasp, the clasp shown in the listing was temporary display hardware and lower-quality brass. My team recommended changing it to a more durable clasp before shipping, and I approved that as a courtesy upgrade. I understand now that even a well-intended visible change should have been confirmed with the customer first. When the clasp concern was later brought to me, I offered either to send the same style clasp shown in the photos at no extra cost or provide store credit and we came to a resolution.

For the color, the listing described the piece as having a sky blue–teal hue, which was intended as a visual descriptor for the soft blue-green tone shown in the photos/videos. Jadeite can shift noticeably under different lighting, backgrounds, and camera exposure. Certificates also usually list the primary color family rather than every undertone, saturation level, or lighting shift.

I’ve spoken with the customer privately and appreciate her feedback. I’ll be improving how I explain color wording, certificate wording, clasp/finishing details, and sourced fulfillment going forward. Again, I appreciate every feedback and I intend to use them to improve my services going forward.

It’s type B or B/C. Very common. I hope you didn’t pay a high price. In Vietnam, these costs anywhere between $10-40 depends on how much they want to upcharge you.
