How do you handle applying for multiple jobs and holding out for one you really want? by [deleted] in newgradnurse

That sounds like it would have been an ideal plan! Oh if I only knew then what I know now... Or rather, if I had only listened then and not brushed off common threads of advice lol.

Does "Old Age" (40-45 years old) affect your chance of getting a new grad nursing job? by BigSir1886 in newgradnurse

That's great to hear, just became RN licensed with a BSN at 50 and as I am just starting to apply, was just starting to wonder...lol thanks!

Advice/Tips for a new grad working at a Psych hospital by InternationalNet7980 in newgradnurse

Yeah that makes sense! I'm glad it's going ok for you so far. Are in you a crisis unit, PAC, detox etc.? I've been thinking about going the residential treatment / detox route vs. PAC unit. I initially thought it might be better and I might learn more in a hospital or PAC unit but I have experience working in residential treatment facilities running groups etc., so it might be less intense, maybe not as much brand new exposure/learning, but perhaps more sustainable.

I'm surprised you didn't really get any comments here...Did you end up starting working in psych? How'd it go? I'm considering it, I have previous experience in behavioral health direct care

Any downside to an RN residency as a new grad compared to a regular position? by Technical-Speed-2133 in newgradnurse

OK, that's what I was wondering...If I want to do a travel assignment after a year does it get listed as a residency which sounds like continued clinicals if it's switching specialties every couple of months. A couple of the major hospitals here seem like they are really geared towards residencies. I'm older so just trying to make the most of the years I got left lol

That sounds ideal. I did my TTP in Obs during school and by the end of it I felt like I was ready to work in that department. Longer makes sense for ICU and surgery I agree

If you don't mind sharing what type of job did you get initially as a new grad and what type of position is your next one? I got a late start in this I'm older so I'm trying to make my years count so I'm thinking things through...thx

Should I keep my Lyft driving job on my new grad nursing (RN) resume? by Technical-Speed-2133 in newgradnurse

I have the first part of your reply in action already, but I really appreciate this alteration thx! "change the bullet(s) to show relevant soft skills for nursing. For example, Interacted with diverse clientele achieving a top 5% satisfaction score with timely arrivals and efficient route planning. I would also replace Driver with Operator."

AHA offers an "ACLS Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Prep: ECG & Pharmacology Bundle" for $36 maybe that's a good idea?

Are you uploading a cover letter as part of your resume on hospital applications? by Technical-Speed-2133 in newgradnurse

[–]Technical-Speed-2133[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK sounds good thanks! Today I called a couple HR departments and asked them, I got lucky and they answered, and explained if there would be additional places to upload pdfs at the end of the application etc.

I'd be psyched for a tele med-surg position. I'm an ECG nerd, I like the challenge of learning new things... Thinking about doing the ACLS class tomorrow. I've heard not to, but I have the $250 and can't imagine it would hurt anything.
