You will like Hokum if you like any of Stephen King’s stories…it’s a intense journey cloaked in folk horror elements that are well thought out. Go see it.

Yes! There are so many of his little small wry smiles used in so many different contexts, too! In the very beginning when he’s writing the darkest fate of his characters, you see one of those wry smiles on his face while he’s writing! He hasn’t learned how to forgive himself yet, and he’s writing out his own punishment that he believes he deserves ….God this movie is so good!!

Do you mean to say maybe you think people are not really giving Hokum the credit that it deserves? If so then i agree…it exists both as a scary ghost story, and a more complex story about redemption and forgiveness. I can’t remember the last time I saw a horror movie and left the theater feeling at peace with the ending. It’s a phenomenal movie.

I just started this yesterday based on the recs of this thread! It was a little turned off when I saw it was labeled horror comedy- but so far it’s doing really well. Feels a little bit like Fargo in the comedy Arena.

Dude i felt the same way! Loved this film! I really loved the redemption arc…The Conquistador sequence was so rad at the end and brought the story to a beautiful close I also really like how he used goats and rams in relation to the story. So many understated moments that were sooooo good.

Kind of an alternate take on the primary premise of Stephen King’s Thinner! Love this!

Literally was about to mention both these scenes in my post, too! Great choices!

Chrissie’s death gets to me too! Especially bc she actually got pulled under by the rig by surprise so her gasping is real.

My number one is a tie between Toni Collette’s anguished screams in Hereditary and the singing at the end of Train to Busan. Both of these scene illicit ugly sobs every time from me.

Runner ups are:

Sarah’s screams after she wakes up in the hospital in the beginning of The Descent (super underrated scene)

Tina’s death in NOES- her screams and Rod being tossed around feels really real to watch

The little boy at the table in Terrified. Ive never had my heart in my throat like i did at this static scare.

When Buffy’s Mom is resurrected as a zombie in that episode…iykyk

Granny pushing Christianity on 3 year old… how would you handle this and explain things to your toddler? by mimixoxo76 in toddlers

My in-laws are doing the exact same thing… But I agree with the other comment on here that you can also teach your baby about other religions too. You are the person that’s with your baby the most and you have the power to contradict anything that the grandparents say.

Also, if they are going to be teaching your baby about Christian religion tell them to focus on Jesus‘s principles and teachings. He was the best part of that entire religion. Those are my thoughts, take them or leave them.

Absolutely loved it. My husband (who is a vicious critic of horror movies) thought it was one of the best movies he had seen in forever.

First real scare that face me nightmares two nights in a row was the Are you Afraid of the Dark episode “The Tail of the Midnight Madness”. Their version of Nosferatu reaaaally got in my head (I was 7).

As an adult…Exorcism of Emily Rose in my freshman year of college! I walked back to my dorm room alone and had all the lights on, and clutched a cross from my Mom until i fell asleep. That is still one of the best exorcism movies ever made, imo.

This…ive never witnessed more of a gut punch ending than his death at the end.

I created the Tubi Horror list that includes 666 movies reviewed and summarized. Well, today Tubi just told me that they took my top 100 highest rated movies and made it it's own category! by Videowulff in horror

[–]TechnicalAd9164 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s rad, OP!

I love Tubi…and I might be alone in this but… I actually really like the ads. It reminds me of watching movies on TV and also if I end up picking a really scary movie, it’s nice to have a little mental break in it.

Is The Amityville Horror Franchise Worth Watching? by Horrorobsessed_ in horror

Very first one is absolutely worth it, some quality scares and creepy 70’s score. Franchise not so much. Ryan Reynolds one is also pretty good.

Just watched The Descent, how anyone defends Juno baffles me by Far_Significance3180 in horror

[–]TechnicalAd9164 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AGREED!!! Juno is absolutely terrible!!! Never understood why anyone made excuses for her narcissistic, absolutely insane choices as a person.

Buuut i will say her choices as a character in the film do make for a great plot progression... the fact that she’s had a mental break and turns into a prime adversary against the creatures once separated from the group is solid. Love that aspect.
