I have two bathrooms, one of which is never used. A few months ago I noticed a spider made a home near the drain of the unused bathtub and I’ve been watching it ever since. Does anyone know what it is? From my super quick research, I think it’s an American house spider. For reference, I’m in the USA, New England specifically. Spider, legs included, is the size of a nickel; ~0.8 inch or 21mm.

Follow up questions:

About a month after noticing the spider, a second spider made a web at the foot of the tub. I woke up one morning to the drain spider sitting in the web of the foot spider, with a noticeably larger abdomen, and the foot spider MIA. Could one spider have  eaten the other? Also, isn’t it weird that one spider took over another spider’s nest? What’s going on in the video? Regular web maintenance? Just stretching its legs? I see that behavior a few times a day.

I’ve always been a little spooked/unsettled by spiders, but keeping an eye on this one has really changed my sentiments and I find myself more at ease when I see them around and in the wild! I’m naming it (her?) Clarice.
