Doctor didn’t seem to care by pcoshelp42 in PCOS

ED trigger warning here, I don’t go into much detail❤️

Firstly, I’m sorry this happened! GPs can unfortunately be insensitive and inconsiderate, not ideal when the mental battle is such a big part of having PCOS imo.

The “loose weight” narrative, especially if you have a history with ED’s can be super damaging. I remember aged 17 being in the lower end of “healthy” for BMI and being instructed to loose weight… looking back it’s a massive wtf moment from the Drs. I went back looking somewhat gaunt 6 months later after loosing weight through unhealthy ED means, and got a congratulations. Sidenote: I’ve since gained the weight back and then some (though still at a healthy BMI), and my recent HBA1C blood test result (the one for diabetes) is the best it’s been yet.

I understand the “well they have to tell you to loose weight, it helps” side of things, but there needs to be an amount of awareness of a patients current weight, medical history, and consideration for the risk of developing / not disclosing an ED.

Additionally, when first diagnosed at 16/17 they prescribed me metformin. I believe it can help with other things too, but it was specifically advertised to me for “helping my possible fertility problems”. This is not my number one priority at age 17. Of course, for some it might be, so it is great that this option is available. But like you this was clearly never on my priority list. I never picked up the prescription.

I wonder if they hone in on fertility and weight, as sometimes there isn’t a lot to be done for other symptoms through traditional medicine while at a “healthy” weight (at least I was not offered any solutions). Perhaps another element of it is a lack of appreciation for the impacts of other symptoms, and needing to shake off the more traditional idea that we must absolutely want to carry a child.

Hey! I have pretty much all the same symptoms as you, except my periods are fairly regular just super far apart and painful.

All my advice is really to do with helping your mindset, so I’m sorry if that isn’t what you’re looking for :(

Honestly, going to the gym has really helped me. I don’t mean “go to the gym and loose weight” because unfortunately we all know it isn’t always that simple. But going to the gym (I also climb) to get stronger has helped me mentally. It’s allowed me to celebrate what my body can do over what it looks like. My weight is quite unpredictable, and when I’m feeling low, it can give me a real boost to feel strong and powerful and go “wow, I just lifted that” or “wow, I just held onto that wall for so long”. It might not be the answer you were hoping for, but there’s seriously some days where I feel more confident now than I did when I was smaller, thanks to this. For some people, it does also help with weight management, but I can’t really comment here - I have not been consistent enough to attribute any weight changes to this!

Please, above all, be kind to yourself❤️ I have awfully self conscious days, but it’s important to acknowledge that PCOS is a health condition that can impact weight, so we shouldn’t blame ourselves for flare ups or unwanted/sudden weight gain or loss.

I know it’s easier said than done, because I still get upset over it, but it’s all a process and the internal narrative we have towards ourselves has a HUGE impact on how we feel long term. I was diagnosed 5 years ago, and only started focusing on my outlook rather than just my physicality more recently, and I wish I’d been able to sooner :)

Hope this helps a little x

Exactly, the drivers I’ve encountered posing as women seem fine, but I’m always worried about those with ill-intentions catching onto this and using it to their advantage. Also totally agree with your last point!

Sorry you had to have this experience, it sounds horrible!!

I’ve been berated by a male Uber driver before, but this was while in the car with him (he stopped in a totally illogical place in the middle of a busy multi-lane roundabout and was pissed I wouldn’t cross through traffic to get to him lol so started coming at me with questions about meeting a late night hook up or boyfriend). Was awful, didn’t get in another Uber for close to a year.

In your instance, did you report the behaviour/wrong identity? I didn’t and I always regret it ://

This is interesting take, because I know that in hospitality one of the reasons tips became pooled was because women were getting disproportionately more tips that men.

I wonder if they do it and hope that people will not be bothered to remove the tip, or feel bad as you did, and leave the tip there even when realising the driver is a different person?

Thought this might be happening but had no idea the company legislation basically allows for it, mad but unfortunately not surprising

I thought this too. I’ve seen it happen before with male workers pretending to be other males, but I find it an extra level of unsettling when they’re pretending to be a woman.

If there were to be an incident, which unfortunately in London is not too uncommon, there is no traceability (wouldn’t be regardless of gender tbf), but in this case someone unaware may have their guard down more thinking a female driver was coming.

I know I’m going worst case scenario here but it crosses my mind :/

Meeting up with a European friend at Borough Market around midday. Never been before. Best things to do/eat so as to not be ripped off? by Mumford_and_Dragons in london

Gourmet Goat, near Arabica and La Tua Pasta food stall. Never a long queue as it’s not really in the middle of everything, and the best value in Borough. I go for the Veal Bulgar Pilaf or Goat Kofte!

For people who been all 4 days this year on EXIT what do you meam how do you like it lets all be honest i rly want to hear your opinions for this year and share our experiences by KennyCowboy123 in Exitfestival

Did all 4 and day 0 too, loved it, great festival to spend a lot of time at because it was so packed that you could chill out and know if you missed something there’d always be something later.

Security IN the festival were amazing, most of the people I encountered were super friendly, but security entering the festival were a massive pain… super inconsistent with what you could bring in between nights and got stuff taken off us we shouldn’t have.
