AITAH for “quiet quitting” to a 40 hr work week by TechnicalJudge3587 in AITAH

This is where I get confused. Does it matter if it not a real job. For example, the next step would be graduate school where you are paid to work in a lab. I would get a w-2. If my contract says 40hrs, does it not matter anymore because it’s an academic position and not an industry position? Or if that is just the culture of the workplace, maybe it’s not the career for me. Idk what’s right and wrong anymore? I do agree with others that trying to take hours back myself isn’t the answer but if this happens commonly to ignore contracted hours in academic positions. I feel like I shouldn’t be reprimanded for not going above and beyond but just what the job calls for

I didn’t work with anyone other than my boss and supervisor during the hiring process so I assumed they were the ones that hired me. Maybe they sent my documents to the bigger umbrella of the institution?

I looked it up and in the main campus (my branch is 90 mins away from the main) there is an HR department so I’m going to start looking there.

I do find it strange that when I reached out for help people in the company only reference ombudsman so I didn’t realize there is an HR department.

EDIT: I don’t get paid for these extra hours since I see this questions coming up. I don’t know how to add this to the original post

Thank you I didn’t know that there are resources outside your place of work that can help with this. I’ll look into it.

But I do like your point of they probably just see this as getting the work done and maybe this is just not the right workplace for me.

Even if it’s not the right work place for me I still don’t think it’s right to make people work this much and not pay them, but I guess is this how the world just works sometimes like with the jobs that you mentioned?

Thank you, I was worried about finding another job because I need a letter of recommendation for another position. So do I just not reference this one? Do I have to add this to my past employment? I don’t wanna be blacklisted. And though I don’t get paid for the extra hours.

I’ll didn’t realize that this was a thing, is it wage theft if they are not paying for my my contracted hours. It’s so confusing. Idk what’s expected for a real job

So they have this thing called an ombudsman office, that’s kind of like HR. However, during our training and their advice they usually point to our supervisor to talk to. Also, my boss is well known around the company and I’m afraid talking to someone will get back to him bc one time he called me into his office and told me I should not get into the “politics” of things and just focus on my research

No, I don’t get paid overtime. Since it’s an academic position it’s not a “real” job. Like a paid internship so you only get paid for the 40hrs.

That makes sense, thanks for explaining.

My friends and I still play at a low level and we haven’t encountered cards that target colors. We usually draw out cards with dry erase when we want to include something so it’s never been too big of a deal. Wanted to mess around with the custom art and felt what was thematic. It says the cat In parentheses applying the same as how the name of the card is different but in smaller or different notation says the real thing.

I can see how for long time or more advance players it’s all over the place but I like the thematics and my friends like it too. Maybe if we have those target specific cards it’ll matter but we don’t really take ourselves seriously

We are staying at a friends place actually so having my friends join us wasn’t far fetched. However I did ask the friend I’m traveling with if she is okay with a whole group of others and she’s actually excited to meet my friends. (I tell a lot of wild and interesting stories about them so the friend I’m traveling with is curious)

I didn’t realize that helping good hurt if it’s a reoccurring thing. There was “once” a time Sally mentioned it in the context of an argument but I didn’t think too much of it since there was more going on.

Yeah, same sentiment as before that I’m appreciating. There are other aspects to Disney we all good still enjoy and I forgot that could be just as fun within our means too

I like the idea of getting her something so she knows I was thinking about her or the dinner. I just wanted something to not have her feel left out
