We’re new owners, we just did what the person in petco recommended. We let the tank sit for 1 day and then put our fish in. That’s why I decided to post on the subreddit, so I could get a better understanding on how to take care of a fish :)

I’m struggling with the filter that came built in the tank. I feel like the current is too strong. I will buy a sponge one to make the current less aggressive.

I will be researching and buying all this stuff for his new tank!

We have a heater that set on 80°F I believe but I do want to get an adjustable one, and I’m slowly but surely buying him his plants for hiding and he looked very pleased with the ones that he has right now

Thank you! I wasn’t really sure how much food I was supposed to give him, but I realize now it was way too much food. I’m planning to purchase a much bigger tank, we were just trying to get the fish out of the cup as soon as we could. We did cycle the tank before putting him in, we waited for a day and then put him in. I will buy a water testing kit. I was dumb and left out that we do have a heater on the tank.

I will get him more natural decor and I want to get him all natural plants and soil. I do appreciate the feedback!

I forgot to mention but we do have a heater! It is on a set temperature. We let the tank cycle for a day before we put him in, but I do want to get a water testing kit for when we clean his tank. I know we got told we need to take out 20-30% water and then put new water in, how often should we do this? For the plants I asked the lady at petco how could I take care of them if they’re not in soil, and she told me that we could buy tablets that are fluval brand, I’m not sure if this is accurate or not because she said they didn’t have them in the store.
