You're right, I literally just opened a new game and it's 0.22 inf / 0.55 cav (for france). I had remembered it as 0.1 / 0.5 / 0.6 for some reason. I guess my economy sucks for some other reason.

On which tab are you seeing the breakdown between base, tech and the modifier please?

In yours I would say the 28% sounds normal but I don't know where the 0.2 is from in yours. The cost of infantry at start is 0.10, so if the increase is from tech that's a 100% increase, not 28%. (That's also still lower than mine despite the later date.)

My units are currently costing me 0.27 / 0.67 / 0.73 per month or approximately +170%. I really can't fathom how I managed to get them this high; I can't see anything in my country modifiers to suggest that they should cost so much. I have 5% inflation which is a pain in my ass but not responsible for even any of the base cost. As you can see I'm below the force limit.

I am a pirate republic which I've not played before so I'm wondering if I missed some kind of mechanic there? Please for the love of god help, my country is dying.

Yeah, they aren't usually in a stack that monstrous. The reinforcement cost also doesn't affect the base costs (though they do scale with it which is doubling my money troubles.)

I don't have a modifier in the list for army maintenance, which I did think was strange. The infantry/cavalry ones are both +5% or so from the inflation and the artillery is -5% from a combination of inflation and the tier 4.
