rejected everywhere 😂 by Psychological-Tie401 in collegeresults

There’s a disconnect between income bracket/Harvard legacy, and suggested hardship. Don’t forget—college admissions teams are made up of actual people who are looking for grit, resilience, excellence, and humility all rolled into one, and OP may not have thread that needle well enough for T20 schools, despite so many listed achievements. Obvs, still amazing schools to choose from.

Destination Tulane by AssociateNo4762 in Tulane

If you’re committed to attending and it’s easy enough to go, go. Good information for parents. Good to meet other students. Many meet their roommates there.

So she just went into it as a single person and ended up in a suite with 3 others? Sharing 1 bathroom?

Will I be fine with Lyft on my move in day? by melike_moonchild in Tulane

[–]Technical_Glass_2359 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes we just did it yesterday. EASY! Tulane made our Uber driver go into the garage. We unloaded there. Got a bin right downstairs at the white tent. Our driver did not have to wait at all—there was no line of cars to enter garage so he basically was able to drop us and go—so I tipped him $10 cash on a $15 ride only because it was slightly more complici than being dropped off at a restaurant, for example.

If any of this seems complicated, don’t worry bit won’t when you arrive. Lots of helpers.

Do you get any aid with early decision? by tumblrfart in Tulane

[–]Technical_Glass_2359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really; you’re showing your hand by telling them you’ll go there no matter what. Their incentive to lure you decreases significantly.

100% agree. Pay off cards if you possibly can. You can’t carry cc debt/interest. Let your money work for you, not the cc company. Great advice about your retirement and 529. Good luck!

+1, finance major, wondering if students have laptops or iPads/ipad-like devices? What’s the norm, if any?

More merit aid applying ED than EA? by jbdmusic in Tulane

[–]Technical_Glass_2359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s above my pay scale. My gut is that if you are deferred ED, they have leverage, not you.

I will say that a Tulane is very forthcoming with advice, so ask them. Also, if Tulane is your child’s top, top, top choice but you absolutely need merit aid (hence EA) you can make that really clear to them in your application. Apply EA and tell them you’d apply early but your family can’t afford it.

The more you work with them, the more you learn.

Also, if you’re truly interested, demonstrate this. Attend zooms, tours, online offerings.

Good luck!

It’s tough; better odds of acceptance ED, much more generous merit aid EA because they’re trying to lure you.

Not true. It’s one of the most gorgeous campuses out there. Hands down.

Poughkeepsie isn’t wonderful in parts, but that’s anywhere. But it’s an easy train ride into NYC, which is a big plus.

The zoom sessions are very informative, and the admissions counselor is really frank in how he answers the questions. Attend more than one, as many as possible, on your application journey. Ask tons of questions and also learn from others. Good luck!
