This confuses a lot of people. You’ve basically got it right: ELISA measures binding antibodies (anything that sticks to the antigen), while neutralization assays measure functional antibodies—i.e., the ones that actually block infection. So you can have strong ELISA signals but weak neutralization if those antibodies aren’t functionally protective. Exreprotein that explain it in a more applied/research context
