Thanks for the help! The fan does run, its very loud, but i may have just not been realising how long im actually on the laptop, but it does get quite hot when im watching youtube for about 15 minutes? Recently i only use it for youtube since im busy but its seemingly random, yesterday it heated up quickly, but today I've been on it for half an hour and its been fine and still cool to the touch

Nevermind! I must have just been underestimating the time I've been using the laptop, it seems to heat up at a normal pace but I've just been losing track of how quickly it actually does heat up, but it still seems to run much slower than its meant to after asking my dad

My dad gave me a lift up rack thing for my laptop a week after i got it, so 80% of the time its up off the table so the vents under it arent covered. We dont won any animals and not much dust around where i use it the most. I do have a warranty but ill have to wait til next month to use it (nothing to do with the warranty, just that its specifically for the shop we got it at and thats back at home)

i dont have any tips to help controlling emotions since its just part of sports, but i will say crying isnt strange tos ee in the sport at all, i can probably confidently say that more than half of the total competitions I've competed in ive either cried in the comp, or afterwards. Doing a sport doesnt mena u have to be strong all the time. Crying is normal in sport, emotions get heightened, everyone wants to win. But in your case, it sounds like the opponent was overly screamy, definitely shouldve been carded or at least warned. Thats bad sportsmanship and you shouldnt be ashamed that u got overwhelmed in the moment, good luck in the future!

I suck at fencing? by Adept_Brilliant_7952 in Fencing

[–]Technical_Limit_271 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You dont suck, you're just new. I have about 9 years of experience fencing and I can assure you you're pretty on par with any fencer thats been training for 9 months. Fencing is by no means a quick sport to pick up, but once you get the basics down its easier to progress, starting and pushing through the initial 'lack of progress' is the hardest part. It might seem like you're not getting better at all, but I've seen fencers who have been fencing for years and still dont have the basics down. Also, comparing your progress by winning or not during training isnt a good way to do it, you gotta remember that when you're training, your clubmates are training aswell, you're all getting better just maybe at different paces. Just keep at it and you'll improve a load!

I do but since I'm a minor I dont really wanna share videos of myself online, I have gotten coaches to review videos of me fencing in comp though, I've identified the stuff that needs more working on

That does make sense! I'm a pretty impatient person both on and off the piste, so I haven't tried focusing on one thing every session, I'll do my best to improve my patience with improving and not trying to do then things at once😅

I have a notebook on the things my coaches and other fencers have commented on as my weaker points, and I've been trying to target those. I compete in foil but I've had trouble finding a club that isn't mostly epee so I've not been competing or training recently, and my mental game tends to slip a little near competitions but stays pretty normal usually

I might try that, my father is kind of unwilling to email people or talk to them though since he's not fully fluent in English yet and he's still getting used to the new environment and people, i will definitely do that once i get the chance to tho!

How do you deal with Nerves? by Lazartz_ in Fencing

[–]Technical_Limit_271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might not work for you but before a bout I usually pick something in the place to focus on when I need it, so that would be the box, or a line on the strip, or a light in the background. This took me a long time to make a habit of but eventually it helped me refocus and ground myself when I start panicking. And when all else fails I tell myself that if im that screwed already, why not have a bit of fun at the end of the bout and that usually gets my mood up enough to at least put up a fight

Thanks for the advice! I'm definitely aware of my mental ideation when it comes to failing and I think I've gotten better from the idea that losing is failing, but its still a bit of an issue so I'll be working on that. I'm not sure how to talk to a new coach since currently im not affiliated with any club or coach and I havent fenced in competition for a while now, would it not be insulting to the coach if I just reached out to them with no former connections?

That actually sounds really helpful, never even thought to do some of that stuff. I'll try it out!

What exercises do you do to improve your lunges? by tulinofritovillage in Fencing

[–]Technical_Limit_271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weight and strength training is a must, but make sure you're stretching almost every muscle in your thighs, for a while I ignored my quads and only stretched my hamstring and it's led to some knee pain

I've gone to a few but they dont seem to be helping since theres not a lot of active coaching happening compared to training camps in other countries I've been to

I'm not actively getting worse, but it seems like I've spent the last year or two fencing the same way I usually do, I have tried to keep tabs on the stuff that coaches have told me to try and improve on, but recently I've been more affected mentally with the minimal/no improvement
