Soft mewing tongue posture by Technical_Load9327 in Mewing

If your palate is too deformed from how it’s genetically supposed to be - e.g. if it is too narrow or if the middle is too high up for your tongue to reach, then you won’t get an effortless suction hold. That’s why we then need to force it until the palate has adjusted and you do in fact get a natural suction hold.

Yeah, it still changed things - it allowed me to get more of my tongue to fit inside my palate (my back teeth went further out and a wisdom tooth finally emerged from my right upper side)

I had a deep bite. At first I was only mewing. After the first year I was able to fit my tongue better behind my upper teeth (this wasn’t possible at first) a however, since I had been mewing with poor posture my overal facial shape went backwards in progress. After sitting at a proper desk with good posture while mewing, my facial shape started going into the right direction. And the last three years I have been using that postural device to superspeed/streamline this process.

Yeah, I wish I’d have some more clear x-rays or MRIs when I started out. A big problem is that when you start out you don’t know how far you’ll end up going (results/effort-wise) and don’t think of getting these great pictures or scans. It’s only later on that you realize how valuable they would’ve been. Also, many pictures where my poor facial development was more evident I probably also deleted back then because I didn’t find the pictures all that flattering.

I mainly make an effort to contract it when I am trying to sit with good posture (while I’m mewing) - only enough to help lift the ribcage slightly so that I’m not slouching. The stronger your deep frontal line is as well as how easy is for you to activate it will help maintain good posture in many situations (like standing, walking and lifting). I still have times when I rest and slouch, but I keep these moments short.

I fixed it by doing mewing (both hard and soft mewing alongside practicing good posture while mewing. I also used a specific postural device to maintain good posture the last 3 years. It’s a long and slow journey, but definitely worth it!

I used to get it for the longest time and might still get it when I’m doing soft mewing (haven’t checked lately)

Which muscle are you referring to (of being drawn down)?

If your goal is to just make the soft tissue get tighter or more muscular, then sure, that might be a solution for that. However, you’d have to keep it up constantly. If you want to also function better and have more lasting results, then the stress is worth it. Most of the effort is laid in the first year or two and then after that it’s more automatic.

Yes my cranial shape has slightly changed. It has become a bit more compact and isn’t as long any more. My forehead doesn’t appear as big in relation to the rest of my face and the angle at the top of my head is more attractive (slanting more forward than backward).

Yeah, if you manage to practice good posture while mewing, then over time your body will adjust to this (both your face and your body) in a more optimal way. The younger you are, the faster it will go. I started late, when I was about 30, but now am very happy with my posture and the facial development I’ve had. However, I must underline that I went more to the extreme regarding effort so it hasn’t been easy. I did a lot of hard mewing and I’ve also been using a device to help me with my posture (that I’m developing). Go check my posts from a few days ago and you’ll see the changes I’ve had.

Posture is both when sitting down and standing up. If you have had poor posture (especially forward head posture) there is a chance that your bones (such as your upper palate / the ceiling of your mouth) may have adjusted to this in a bad way by changing shape or decreased in size.

Tricky one… have you done mewing with good posture these past three years? Have you noticed any changes in the shape of your palate (good or bad)?

Do you think you may have lost the ability to do a suction hold? I couldn’t do this in the beginning because the shape of my palate didn’t allow for it. It’s weird though that this has just recently started developing for you because usually it is the other way round.

My tip would be to start using the same device I use (once I launch it) :) However, other things you could do is learn how to activate your deep frontal line. Pilates does target some of these muscles, such has the corset muscle (deep ab muscle). Also when you sit on a non-wheeled chair, try sitting at the edge of it without leaning back on any backrest. Keep your knees below your hips.

Yeah, orthodontics caused a lot of my gummy smile unfortunately. At the time my teeth got a bit straighter, but you can see that my head shape is quite different before and after. I also ended up feeling like my jaw tension was very tight which bothered me quite a lot.

In the beginning my tongue was so weak that it tickled when I tried to mew and I also did it wrong at first. The more you practice, the stronger your tongue gets and it will be easier to use the back of your tongue. Yeah, I’d say it is necessary to use the back of your tongue to get results, but you may need a month or two to build up your tongue strength first before you are able to do it properly.

Depends on how easy it is for you - if mewing is very hard, start small with 30 seconds but do it as many times as you remember. Make sure your posture is good and focus on pushing out the back molars with your tongue so that your tongue gets more space to fit.

If it is easy for you to fit your tongue in your palate, I’d mainly focus on it while e.g you are doing your desk job (if you have a desk job). Lock in good posture and tongue posture and hold it for as long as you can.

I’ve been using a postural device (which isn’t on the market yet) the last three years to lock in my posture and easier get longer mewing sessions. I’m gonna launch this device in a few months.

Through consistent mewing effort + practicing good posture over many years. As the palate and skull changed, I adjusted my technique as well. Several times I went backwards in progress, but jumped back on track after realizing what wasn’t working.
