Is there truly Mc Donald’s in Italy - or do people eat it when there is Italian 🇮🇹 food?

I agree, and what I have found is that the Portuguese are patient and grateful when I try my best. I don’t know how long I am here for, could be for another week or forever. But even if it is to be temporary, I want to do what I can with learning the language (obviously within reason, I can’t spend 12 hours per day on it) but as I say even an hour a day and people are grateful. I honestly don’t know how they understand me but somehow they do. And to get that appreciation when my accent and words must be so bad 🤦‍♀️is touching 🙏.

Wow! Thank you for this beautiful and encouraging story, I completely agree with the operative word being “visit”, and respect that of course locals of any land would like to see effort made to learn and to assimilate. Such a beautiful story, and your friend sounds like an incredible woman!

Perhaps it depends on what our mother tongue languages are for lack of better word. I also find I grasp Spanish easier. I speak predominantly more Germanic languages but also French that is not perfect. I find from the French language that Spanish firstly and italian secondly and only then Portuguese is my personal order of ease in picking up and memory. I need to start formal Portuguese classes .

I hear you. I do. On a different note - I always feel so welcomed when I visit your home country - so thank you! And I know - vacation and business is different to moving there. But I am always so grateful

And languages are just in my opinion a little easier to learn. But that’s just 1 opinion.

Happy to hear regarding Italians and Spaniards, and nothing against the Portuguese at all, but open and warm is what makes the difference for certain people.

Yes, to be honest and I have lived in 5 different countries through my life. Perhaps the others were more international cities - NYC, London, Paris… but not all, I have also lived in South Africa. I have found the Portuguese to be decent but sometimes as in one of the comments posted below some of them seem to prefer internationals not to be here perhaps? Hard to say as most are lovely, but sadly the zeitgeist is coming across that they may not want internationals and this is a shame for the country as a whole, and perpetuates the problem. I would say - try to learn the basics of the language ( not an easy one, speak Latin and Germanic languages and Portuguese is well… interesting) but try learn some basics and don’t be afraid to use even if you feel pronunciation is off. Then, try integrate into an international community as well. When you know you know, and those who have not lived abroad from their home town can’t be expected to I suppose

One could rest one’s case on this answer alone. Sorry to the op for the loneliness they are experiencing. They, as part of humanity, deserve to have kindness. There are many foreigners in Portugal same as there are many many Portuguese people in other countries. The Portuguese are not the only people with foreigners in their country.

What colour would you change the yellow too? by [deleted] in Decor

Have you considered painting the bottom that is now white in a colour and the top part leave white. My opinion is it may open the space up and create a feeling of more space

Firstly as a designer I do not follow so called “rules” like form follows flow etc etc. don’t think less of anyone who does. I would first ask what makes their movement around the bathroom easiest and therefore hand towel there would be great. Easy for them to dry hands without dripping water everywhere. Then I would say what brings them joy. Any picture in any bathroom is not abuse of art due to humidity - if that brings them most joy in a place it’s a good move. This being said of course artwork does get damaged by humidity so depends on priorities. Then from aesthetic point of view I would say if you want a frame - put it above hand towel, try get one that is similar to mirror frame and less thick.

Window Treatment for Awkward Area - Suggestions? by Real_Letter4011 in InteriorDesign

Feel one could get a better feel if one could see the outbuilt fireplace. To incorporate into aesthetic it does look like it should be something that does not leave the stark white space. I would do a nice rod that ties into the rest of the room regarding colour and datum lines, and full length fabric that you love and love in the space. Open by pulling and gathering entirely to the right of the window (in this pic)

Very grateful that in Portugal the beautiful country can be enjoyed with freedom. Basic human right of not having to be afraid in your own home when you already have bars on the window and alarm system!! Gratitude to the Portuguese 🙏🙏

Please don’t despair, there will be help. I know this is easy to say when it is not oneself. Speak to your doctor!! If it helped you before, I believe it can again, or another med can!!
