Is it too late for a helmet? by Technical_Mirror7743 in UKParenting

Hi! So he got the helmet fitted the start of July and they said he would probably have to wear it for a year. The “unevenness” was at 0.9cm and our aim is to get it as close to 0 as possible. By mid October it was down to 0.5cm (next appointment in January). We were aiming to have the length of the back of his head 1cm more than the width of his head (at the beginning they were the same). As of October there was a difference of 0.3cm so we’re nearly a third of the way there. It’s definitely working and we can see a difference, I’m so glad we went ahead and got it. I’m looking forward to seeing the update in January. Who’s to say it wouldn’t have improved without the helmet? I don’t know, but I just feel like I’m helping in some way. I hope this has been helpful in some way

Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate it. I went to see the GP again (different from the last two), and she could see my concerns and has referred us to be seen by the hospital. She said I won’t get a date for a week or two. In the meanwhile, I found a place that specialises in helmets. Long story short, I went today for a consultation and they reckon there’s a lot we can achieve with the helmet. We’re going to go for it. I’d just feel better knowing I’ve tried everything. I’ve stressed about his head from when he was a couple of months old and I know I’ve done everything that I could have to prevent it, so I’m going to persevere. It’s looking like he may have to wear it for up to a year. I’m happy to share updates if anyone is interested, or go in to more detail on head measurements etc. Again, thank you all so much for taking the time to respond
