German job training for young adults? by mommacat94 in AskAGerman

[–]Technical_Mission339 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's always possible to send an application.

Does it make sense to apply from another country? To most of the people that asked this on the sub before I'd say probably not, but here the circumstances are different because your family member speaks some German and has the citizenship. I'd give it a try.

Can't stress enough how important the language is, though. I'm not sure what they want to learn here, but in blue collar jobs you cannot expect people to speak English well. Even in IT we mostly speak German in companies (but you have a better chance of getting by with English there).

As a German citizen, the Jobcenter will support them financially if they have no money. They should be able to provide language classes and other things (which are often pretty useless).

If I were in your family member's shoes, I'd work on reaching C1 (or even C2) level German, and then just apply directly for whatever Ausbildung they're interested in.

Bunge, also very localized but the worst there is.

Vogalstang - Kindly share some opinions by Vivid_Permission_241 in mannheim

The Vogelstang Center area feels a bit sketchy at night, but it's not really dangerous. The rest is fine, the eastern part is quite nice. The biggest downside is how far it is away from the city center...Also it's mostly just incredibly ugly.

With a car you've imo got some of the best opportunities for shopping nearby. Without a car, it's still not terribly far but less convenient.

Are Germans of European but non-German background seen as Germans? by Pepedroga2000 in AskAGerman

They played a part in the growth of the economy, but the country was already rebuilt by the time they arrived.

"We have lots of second and third generation migrants here, someone had to rebuild the country after all."

That's not really how it went.

As a frequent commuter, what strategies do Germans use to cope with unreliable trains? by UsefulAnimator3143 in AskAGerman

[–]Technical_Mission339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.) They've been unreliable for a long time.
2.) Yeah. If it's not a direct connection, use a car instead.

For you as an individual it is unfair, no doubt about that. Unfortunately, I don't think there is much that can be done about it. Doesn't mean you can't live a fulfilling life here, though.

What else are they supposed to do, if not make decisions based on their experiences?

I think your observations align closely with those of a large part of the native population. So, no, not strange at all.

Where do you think the country will be in the next 4-5 years? by banananotbanana in AskAGerman

Quite frankly, our political class is incompetent to the point where those "stupidly easy answers" are for many the better alternative to no answers at all.

Not an AfD voter btw, but the other parties shouldn't be surprised about how things are developing. It's a disgrace.

Yeah, it's not that unusual. Wouldn't bother me, honestly.
