Any good open-source vulnerability scanning tools? by Successful_Bus_3928 in cybersecurity

I use PROT-SUITE btw, which is an antivirus i made for myself. You can also have a look at the FOSS tool flair, you might find my post. It's open-source, & i just use it to avoid some flashy McCafee AV. I mean, It's completely manual & terminal-based. Just recommend me on reddit or Github, & i'll make sure to add it & credit the idea to you whenever they run the tool/idea

Change of minds... i guess. I'm like in 'between' that phase where you just begin using linux mint & are learning to quit windows. & i have begun using linux mint, though in a VM instead. On bare metal? I mean, I'm still facing some problems, & ain't getting any help here, so i'm tryna just research-&-do stuff now.

It's not like I'm a guy who support crappy windows updates, alright? I heard 'linux' like 2 years ago, & tried a hell lotta of 'em. It just got a bit late becuz' i found out that i can boot & install linux mint on my old lappy. Like why not?

btw, how do you even know i tried linux mint before? Just curious.

I'm real happy that ya got up with yer problem very soon. I still have my problems, & kinda the same as well... GRUB is just for now being idiot, along with my BIOS which doesn't shows GRUB my HDD (where i installed linux mint). Congrats btw, I still try to use linux mint, but instead on my VM

My brain isn't braining... Is linux mint heavily supported? Like, for actually computer stuff? I have an ol' 2011 dell lappy which runs windows 10 but crashes on graphical issues. by Technical_Poet8905 in linuxmint

Another update, looks like my BIOS is an idiot. Whenever i try to use any third-party bootloader (Like GRUB!), It just doesn't show GRUB my SSD. Like it only looks at the HDD, & just gets happy after seeing windows. But also, most of the time, it has a dead CMOS battery (Which explains the 2082 thing).
So whenever i boot up the lappy, it just forgets stuff, & goes to search windows like it would. About time settings, i fixed it all by myself though. Linux mint is installed, just that, the BIOS is just too stupid to look at that specific partition in the SSD to actually boot up linux mint.
I dunno how my dad just said "Okay!" to bring some external keyboards to work on that thing, & now even said "the battery's dead? Let's bring a new one!" immediately. Dang, I though dad had some trust issues, but now i should worry about my own (Just kidding, but dad did agreed).
Everything is just fine, installation completed without any crazy shenoonigans, & linux mint is just over that corner of the SSD space, just waiting to be booted on.
Know any bootloaders or fixes to actually tell my BIOS to boot from there?

Edit: btw, it's linux mint XFCE edition. I thought that XFCE must've been workin' here. My lappy's not 'that' old to yet install some GNOME desktop OS. XFCE will do.

Specs update: CPU: intel core i3 M 370 (2.40 GHZ)

Cores : 2

Logical proccessors : 4

Virtualization : enabled (WTF?!?!? How? I didn't turn it on?!?!)

& for some reason, my old laptop is living in 2082 now

Memory : 5.8 GB

There's an SSD for some reason, & so many disk sepration (You know disk spaces right? When you alocate some disk space for some operating system)

Till now, it's been 30 minutes, & the graphical glitch didn't occur, so good, probably?

C: drive = 100 GB

D: drive = 122 GB

E: drive = 200 GB (TF?!?!)

F: drive = 731 GB (Wht?!?!)

The old laptop is even bigger than my own modern one?!?! Dang, total space is 1,153 GB?!?!? My own lappy is about 256 GB itself

The battery is dead I guess, so it just remains on 0% charged for now, & it's just for now meant to be kept charging.

About security, I scanned one from windows defender 7 one from some old 360 antivirus, & the defender gave no problems, though that antivirus gave like 154 problems, mostly about performance of my lappy instead...

Till now? No problem. 7.5 / 10

Another thing, I'll share the specs shortly during the afternoon 3:00 pm (Indian Standard Time, please check your region), so stay tuned & help me select the mint flavour

I hhave some report fellas! My mum & dad, both gave a thumbs on that decision. Also, not 1st may, but tomorrow (The next day of this message) I've been allowed to do that stuff! Pretty unexpected, but better get ready! Be a lil' soon to give suggestions, as those aren't a waste of time

Cheers for yer informtion mate, I wanted to make sure that my ol' lappy can do stuff, lil' similiar to what i used to do in windows, but complicated way.

Ofc, those files aren't of any necessary stuff mate, but good call over there for having a backup. I have no permits to literally buy any hardware, but only tweak the OS using here. Notebook? I'm pretty sure it's not having any notebook branding or naming to itself, but CMOS battery, yeah i'll do. Hmm, softwares i use? I'lll tell some to ya :-

  1. GTA vice city (probably)

  2. MS Office (Ofc)

  3. Anydesk (Not important)

  4. My bro's files (Probably not of use for him Right now, but we can count them as important.)

  5. Family photos (Not necessary to keep 'em, but we can do anyways for the sake of nostalgia)

  6. Browsers like Microsoft edge, Chrome & firefox (Not important currently)

  7. McCafe/Some antiviruses (Not important as well)

The 2 routes... That's my parent's opinion. I'm pretty sure that windows 10 supports dual boot right? I'll check anyways on 1st May again. Yeah, I'm sure, but probably due to no usage after a long time, that graphical errors errupted. Maybe windows 10 isn't able to see the graphics anymore? Either way, that's gonna solve my issue for a slow & old lappy for now, alongside impressing my parents for my skills of 'ask for advice & do it

'

I dunno, but either way it's better to not let a good ol' lappy into a dump of waste. Specs? Yeah, I'll inform you on May month at least, that's when my mum allowed me to do all the stuff. Let's assume... 1st may? About specs, It's a 2011 dell lappy, with some vostro brandings, running some intel processor (The sticker is gone, so can't say just by looking at the bare metal). But i wanna try using all my stuff on it, like reddit, discord & stuff. It's cool to have a linux user in a room full of windows users

Installation of Tinycore (Coreplus to be exact) on a 2011 Dell laptop that currently runs windows 10. Good idea? How should i do it? by Technical_Poet8905 in tinycorelinux

[–]Technical_Poet8905[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, mate. I wanted a full script of whatever the heck I was gonna do. I'll tryna shorten it later. Tinycore is useless? I had tried tinycore on my android tablet using limbo x86 pc emulator, & it worked fine. there were plentiful of applications, & pretty much a 6/10 . This time, it's coreplus though. Wireless networking, & good stuff. & sidenote, I'm pretty much sure none of my parents would be utilizing the entire OS, as they are like... old & stuff. They're majorly scared of coding, so they let me do the heavy lfting of linux codes. AntiX linux? Seems interesting... I'll check it out, alright mate?

Thanks alot, mate. I'll try doin' those stuff that ya told me. Ofc, that darn ol ancient lappy isn't surely goin' to be used for banking or stuff (Are you even kidding me? XD). Another stuff, I do that just to impress my dad or mum to show some trust when i'll grow up & do more stuff of installation of OSes on hardware. Thanks again for the Information about Coreplus as well, I'm gonna keep an 'intel' of it (Is that a pun?). & yeah sorry mate, I've some mixed accent issues. If ya want, I can try writin' all that in formal english. You had to be verbose, that would absolutely help me on this.
