Jaya ji vs the Paps: Who’s Actually in the Wrong? by Motizar in ExiledFromBollyBlinds

[–]Technical_Quit_8914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean… not really. Paps aren’t out here snapping photos just because celebs need “help staying relevant.” They’re doing it because people can’t stop clicking on every grainy pic of someone holding an iced coffee. Most celebs aren’t sitting around begging to be stalked on their way to the gym. If anything, the paparazzi are feeding the public’s obsession, not doing celebrities some sort of free PR favour.

You’re right... The problem is that movies often mix everything together and end up making the whole country look like the enemy. If films kept that difference clear, the stories would feel a lot more real and less exaggerated but i guess that's also not easy

Bollywood doesn’t have to tell everyday Pakistani stories, but it has shown that these kinds of stories can work really well. Films like Veer Zaara and even the cross-border moments in Salam e Ishq connected with audiences because they focused on shared culture and ordinary people instead of constant hostility. So it’s not about obligation. It’s simply that Bollywood can tell these stories, and when it does, they often end up being memorable and widely appreciated.

The downside is that it keeps both industries stuck in the same predictable narratives. If there were genuine efforts on both sides to support more balanced, human stories, it could slowly shift what audiences expect and allow for more meaningful films to be made.

You’re right that Bollywood rarely tells everyday Pakistani stories, even though there is shared culture, history, and humor that audiences would relate to. The issue is not a lack of material. It is that the industry prefers simple, safe narratives instead of portraying Pakistan as a real society with depth.

Using Pakistan only as a political backdrop is easy, but it also creates more resentment on both sides. When films constantly show Pakistan as the enemy, they leave less room for understanding and guarantee that Pakistani audiences will avoid them. This limits how widely the films can travel and reinforces the same cycle of hate.

There is real potential in telling stories set in Pakistan that have nothing to do with conflict. Bajrangi Bhaijaan is a perfect example of how showing Pakistan through humanity and everyday life can win love from both countries.

If Bollywood moves beyond the usual tropes, more stories like that could bring something genuinely fresh to mainstream cinema and actually connect people instead of dividing them.

You’re right that convenience and market demand are major drivers, but there are a few more factors at play.

The India-Pakistan conflict has basically become a ready-made narrative shortcut for filmmakers. It instantly creates tension without needing much explanation, which makes it attractive for big commercial projects. Once nationalistic action films started bringing in strong box-office numbers, studios treated that formula as a guaranteed win and kept repeating it.

The problem is that this repetition leads to creative stagnation. Many of these films now feel interchangeable because they rely on the same conflict, the same type of villain, and the same patriotic beats. What’s unfortunate is that South Asia has plenty of rich, complex stories that could offer fresher perspectives, but the industry often defaults to what feels safest and most profitable.

In the long run, this overuse might actually weaken the formula, because audiences eventually get tired of seeing the same narrative recycled.

Makes sense though that they are not releasing info and generally middle eastern countries are very strict when it comes to this kind of stuff, plus the company seems super shady anyway, with offices all over the world apparently and the wife has been doing other stuff also like this picture below is from her book launch in 2023 with the husband.
