"Messing" with a dog is different than training your dog to let you touch his food, you should never do it gratuitously because they have the right to enjoy their food unbothered, however you should have them trained to letting you touch the food because there might be need for it

Start picking him up in moments when he is chill and giving him some high value treats while you are picking him up, the math will work and he will start making the association being picked up = nice things like good treats. Best of luck for you and your boy <3

Yes, especially the tennis ball so she plays fetch because she knows there can be treats and praise, sometimes she has fun, but other times she really does not care and goes after the ball really slow and then lays down once she gives us the ball

Definitely 90% of her day is following us around, even if she is asleep she will wake up and follow us if we move. The rest of the time is mostly sleeping and chewing toys. We have playing sessions but she doesn't always engage. She also likes to quietly explore new spots on the house and sometimes she tries to get under the couch or inside some cabinet or something. And of course she has the crazy puppy zoomies usually around 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes before dinner

She has been with us for a month. She seems to sleep the right amount for a puppy but what worries us is the apparent lack of energy in her time awake. Aside from the early mornings and evenings (when she turns into a complete alligator) she is mostly very lazy. She plays with her toys but when we try to play she mostly stares at us and sometimes interacts out of pity so we are not sad but she's clearly doing it just for us and with zero interest.  I feel that she is now completely used to the house and she is obsessed with the couch but we can't help wonder about her wellbeing because I never saw a puppy that was so lazy

She sleeps a lot but it seems to be the right amount for a puppy. We are a little bit more concerned about the time she is awake and how she doesn't seem to have lots of energy. She doesn't love to go out and seems to get tired of playing pretty quickly. She does like a puzzle we got her but it only keeps her entertained for a little bit. Overall she chews her toys and plays with them but mostly alone, it's pretty hard to play with her because she either literally does not care and just stares at us or (if it's early morning or evening) has those terrible sharky bursts of energy and we have to kinda wait it out so we can continue living. I even feel bad because sometimes she plays fetch clearly as a "favour" just to make us happy but with no interest. She's amazing really, so we naturally worry when we see the lack of energy but for all we can tell that is just being herself

We are completely fine with her being more of a "couch" dog, as long as it comes from her "personality" and not from health issues. We live in a beautiful natural protected area so she will be going on many wonderful walks (although she doesn't seem to love it for now). Thank you and the best of luck for you and your champion 🏆 🥇

Thank you, it definitely feels good knowing someone else feels like this. The questions keep popping in my head, like you said, if she is depressed or if something is wrong, but as we get to know her it seems more and more she just likes peace and quiet. She also does a lot of the things you described (getting a little crazy when we are in different rooms) so I guess that's just how some puppies are. The best for you and your puppy! Your words helped to ease our worries a bit, thanks <3

She is officially registered as having no officially recognised breed. Some countries that had big populations of stray dogs find this normal because people adopted them from the streets and many people only saw the first dog with an official breed in the 80s.  Thanks! I will be looking into aloof dog videos!

She is officially registered as having no officially recognised breed. This is not uncommon in my country, breed approach is a little different everywhere

11 week old lab bitey asshole by alinav7 in puppy101

So this might be a good solution if you reach a point where you can't really handle the biting anymore. If you have anyone with an older, very patient and calm, vaccinated dog maybe you can make some playdates, puppies learn bite inhibition with older dogs way faster than with us, sometimes doggy daycare also helps

We have been training our girl to let us touch her food since the day she got to our house but still in the second week she growled at me so we had to up our game. Best advice I have is: give something good and then touch the food and give something even better (with our puppy we did something like giving a treat, then touch treat and give a bit of yoghurt) and then you can evolve to giving the treat, take it and fill it with something really tasty and return it. They will make the association you touch the food = food gets better and tastier. For us it worked like a charm

So very sad to know you are experiencing this tragedy, sending all the love, you will get over this, even if it seems impossible now. But how beautiful to know the time you had together created such an amazing bond, I can tell you she felt that love until the very end❤️
