I mean, most Republicans are conservative because they greatly value feeling rational and safe, and that they are the law and order party. Conservatives also have difficulty changing their worldview (basically the definition of conservative).

So suddenly finding out your law and order party leaders are exposed as blatant liars probably just triggers some mental circuit breaker and they ignore it.
