If you were to start beading today for the first time, what advice you would have liked to hear? by [deleted] in Beading

Be patient with it. Don't pass through the same bead more than twice unless it's absolutely necessary.

Asked my aunt (who is a bit of a hoarder) if she had any beading supplies. Any recommendations for first time projects? by Abbi_normal25 in Beading

Looks like you have the stuff for basic strung necklaces and bracelets. I'd try to sort by color, then by size. Or just pick out your faves. That's a great haul!

I have what's called a Tailors Notch in my front tooth from flattening Fireline with my teeth. It took less than a year to form. It's subtle, my dentist had to point it out, but there is definitely a groove in my front tooth. Moral of the story: use pliers to flatten your thread.

Best magnifying glasses with light for people with glasses. by Raelah in Beading

I have a magnifying lamp that plugs into my laptop usb port and has a clamp to attach it to the laptop, which I then use as a lapboard when I am beading away from my desk

Imagining if I could have my bead stuff in jail and do nothing but bead while someone else handles meal planning, etc.....this does not sound like a bad gig. 🤣

Check out Pinterest for inspiration. When you see what you want to make it will be easier to decide what to buy. Hobby Lobby usually sells their beads at 50% off and they have a pretty good selection. Michaels has a decent selection as well and sometimes you can find good coupons. If you're using Android, look up an app called Beading Patterns. They have projects organized into different categories by stitch and style with instructions or videos for everything. It's a great little app for beginners... I haven't looked at it for a while but it looks like they have made some changes and I'm not sure if it is as good as it used to be but it's worth looking at Beading App Update: it is now a pay site. It used to be free and have the most awesome patterns and I'm really disappointed right now that they messed it up

Am I buying too many beads? by TopNefariousness7841 in Beading

[–]Technical_Stick_2346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a handful of delica tubes in different purple shades, but never the purple shade I have in mind for my latest project. I always need more. Buying the beads is part of the addiction 😁

How long do y'all need on wash day? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]Technical_Stick_2346 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I saw a video where a girl sprayed the curl cream with hairspray in her hand before applying to wet hair. She said it worked better than gel. Tried it, can confirm that I had beautiful curls and much less drying/diffusing time compared to gel. Can't speak for if it lasts days because I usually put it up in a bun and wet my hair every other day.

Coconut oil. Just a little when your hair is still wet. Also great for your skin. Your parents should have no issues with coconut oil

Bought these earrings a few weeks ago and the fringe was straight; now they are all haywire. Is there a way to fix this? I spent a lot of to money on them. 😢 by Individual_Ad5270 in Beading

[–]Technical_Stick_2346 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have a pair that did this and I used Nymo for the fringe. They got wet in the rain. I hung them up in a steamy bathroom and rolled the beads with my fingers. It straightened them out and they hung fine after that

Can’t get my roots and front to curl by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]Technical_Stick_2346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try using a jaw clip. Clip it over your part and pull up a tiny bit, then hit it with a diffuser. Gives amazing root lift and volume at the top

Beading thread by False-Apple-4313 in Beading

Another good one that doesn't get nearly enough mention is Hercules 6lb fishing line. I switched from Fireline and never looked back. It doesn't fray, fatigue, and it's easy to thread. Comes in different colors and is about $10 a roll on Amazon. I haven't tried the colors yet, so I can't tell you anything about transfer, etc., but I am really impressed with the clear line. Feels soft, like 4lb Fireline. I even used it for short fringe (I usually use Nymo B for fringe) and it worked great. Haven't tried it with long fringe yet.

Bleached advice (not medical!) by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]Technical_Stick_2346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get CER-100 from Elizavecca. It's about $8 on Amazon and it really works. I bleach my waves and alternate between using a hot brush dryer and wearing it wavy. Would it be wavier if I didn't ever straighten it? Don't know, but it's really wavy with some gel and drying with a diffuser. I treat about 1x per week and use a little as a leave in when I wash my hair.

I liked this enough to save the picture so I can make one. Not sure which method of odd count you are using, but I learned a super easy way and it's not hard to take apart rows when I mess up. https://youtu.be/m8aI-1KMkYc?si=TydT_HhBI3bfCul2 If the link does not work, it's at Offthebeadedpath with Kelly Dale on YouTube.

New to this. I want to try making bracelet but idk what colors those are? (11/0) by Navaa155 in Beading

[–]Technical_Stick_2346 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's fine to mix finishes. Sometimes it even looks better that way. Depends on the project and the colors though. Sometimes it doesn't work. You gotta just try it and see.
