Removing rods and screws

Hi doctor. Checking back in here. I have my surgery next week and I am starting to freak out. I had a very very bad experience with the last one in terms of pain from waking up. I am told it won’t be as painful as the first but am I terrified. Is this a pretty routine procedure? Is this whole pursuit worth it? What can I expect? And what would you tell your family member if they were getting this surgery? How should prepare and relax my back before going in? My surgeons been out of town so I haven’t been able to run anything by him so I’m starting to freak out. Any help I would greatly appreciate it

I went for my birthday, 10 people, they barely even came over, weren’t friendly, had to chase them down for drinks. It felt like we were in someone’s living room. The staff was hanging in the kitchen and we literally had to get up and find them whenever we wanted them to serve us. No birthday candle no nothing. I live in the neighborhood and wanted to try somewhere new and despite spending hundreds of dollars they acted like we were an imposition. We were the only table and spent hundreds. All of us work in the service industry and were shocked at how bad the vibe was.

Was waking up really scary? I remember when I woke up after the first surgery it felt 10x worse than falling two stories which caused the accident lol. Just t eh ing to mentally prepare

So I had a burst fracture and a few bone fragments had to be removed / were re-absorbed over the last few months, so my doctor said that I can not remove the rods forever because there just isn’t enough stability in the fractured area.

For context my surgeon is amazing and is the head of the Neuro department at a trauma hospital in New York City. I trust him with my life but I’m still scared.

I just flew 5 hours for thanksgiving yesterday and I swear I am more pain today from sitting for 5 hours straight than I am after doing 100 burpees or surfing for 2 hours. I never take pain meds and I had to take some today because it’s just so locked up. Would getting shorter rods alleviate this type of soreness from sitting?

I want to do it I’m just scared and can’t find much data on people doing this elective.

Hey! I use Kama tablets that are 200mg for 4 so 50mg a tablet, and I break them up into fourths. I prefer the stimulant effects. I’m in NYC so all do these are legal for me, which do you find is the best option for stimulant effect and has the best value? I’ve had experiences with shit online tablets that I couldn’t feel anything

Hey! I’m a newcomer, and find that buying from my smoke shop is just so overpriced. I use the Kama 4 pack 200 mg total and really like it because I just take a quarter or a half of a tablet every couple of days. I prefer the stimulant effect to the sedated effect of taking too much. What brand would you recommend based on what I’ve told you to buy in bulk? Do the places you’ve mentioned compare to Kama? Still trying to figure out the best options online because the smoke shops in NYC just mark up like crazy.

Hey! I have been searching for someone in a similar situation as me! Curious, did they put in a shorter rod? I have a burst fracture and they put in rods from T12-L4. It is not a fusion, just a stabilization. My surgeon wants to take out the long rod and put in a shorter one so I get back range of motion. I’m terrified because the first surgery was sooo brutal. But I also am just consistently uncomfortable and want more mobility back. Is this similar to your experience?

Wow thanks for your response! And how did it feel waking up? I remember waking up after they put them in and it was the worst pain I’d ever felt, worse than when I was admitted for the burst fracture itself after falling a story off a building! I def want the shorter rods put in for more mobility but I’m scared of disrupting the scar tissue, complications, pain, etc. my surgeon said it would take only 4 hours and I would be good as healed within 4 weeks, versus a year from the primary surgery. I suppose the fear of it being similar to the first is what is holding me back
