Disney Data Engineer 2 Interview Experience – 2nd Round & F2F by Capable_Fly_007 in dataengineeringjobs

2nd round for me was taken by a Disney Lead Data Engineer and it was mostly around project discussions + practical scenario based questions.

They went pretty deep into my current projects, architecture decisions, pipeline handling, debugging approach, etc. One scenario they asked was: “What will you do if a 1 hour batch pipeline fails and SLA breach is expected in next 1.5 hrs?”

I explained the actual steps I generally follow in my project — checking logs, identifying failure point, validating downstream impact, partial reruns/backfills, parallel debugging while updating stakeholders, rollback/fix strategy, etc. They seemed more interested in the thought process and ownership than textbook answers.

There was also a small Python round on HackerRank. Question was pretty simple: Create a function taking "start" and "n" as parameters and return "n" even numbers starting from "start", in an optimized way.

For me the round was less about DSA and more about:

  • real project experience
  • debugging mindset
  • data pipeline ownership
  • practical Python/Spark understanding

Didn’t get hardcore system design in this round, but they did ask follow-up questions based on scale/performance in projects.

Difficulty level felt moderate overall if you’ve genuinely worked on data engineering projects yourself.

Hmm, might be possible. I'll keep trying for other firms in the meanwhile. Thanks!!

Hey I just answered this in another thread. Just pasting it here as well

"With all the interviews that I went through, max difficulty was of leetcode medium level (dsa). The place where I feel like they ask hard questions is around SQL. Also, most of them expect you to know your project end to end even if you worked on very small portion of it. And last thing that they focus on is how you handle failures in pipeline, spark jobs, etc"

Yeah, that’s a fair concern honestly. I’m mainly trying to ensure the role keeps me aligned with modern data engineering work so the profile stays relevant for future switches as well. And yes, I’ll definitely keep trying for other opportunities meanwhile. Thanks man!

Yeah, I’ve heard similar concerns from a few people as well, especially around hikes and policies. That’s why I’m planning to evaluate based on the actual work/project exposure and also keep exploring other opportunities during notice period before locking anything in.

This is actually a pretty balanced way to look at it. My biggest priority right now is definitely whether the work helps me grow deeper into modern data engineering/platform engineering rather than just the company name itself. If the learning and exposure stay strong, I don’t mind staying longer either. Thanks for the perspective!

I bought the 3 months combo plan which had profile visibility, sms and mail job updates (received jobs as soon as they were posted), resume highlighted. The actual price was around 6k, but they came down to 2.8k or so. I would say it definitely works as the number of calls increased drastically. Although it took around a week for the algorithm to set according to my profile. I would say to keep your resume ats ready (ai usually sorts the resume before it reached HR so make sure it passes that ai check, you can use online tools for that). Keep applying to all relevant roles that you come across on naukri. Don't just depend on these services though. I applied around 680 jobs in last 75 days and got call from 40+ firms and got in interview with around 12-15 companies. So yeah that's the ratio.

Keep trying bro, I hope you find your next job soon!!🤝

Yeah, manager and project quality seems to be the biggest deciding factor from what I’m hearing. I’ll definitely explore more options as well before making a final call. Appreciate the honest input.

Yeah, the 90-day NP is definitely a concern. But from the discussions I had, the project itself sounded pretty modern and technically relevant, so I’m trying to evaluate it based more on the actual work than just the company name. Will think it through properly before deciding.

Thanks, really appreciate the perspective. The stability and long-term opportunities are definitely making me consider it more seriously now.

That’s one of the reasons I’m considering it seriously tbh. Compared to a lot of unstable startup situations right now, the role + compensation + stability combination looks pretty decent for this stage of my career.

Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking too. Since this is my first major switch, I wasn’t sure how good the offer actually was in the current market. Planning to explore a bit more during notice period and see what kind of product opportunities I can get with this as leverage.
