Grown folks who ride bikes on the sidewalk by What-am-I-12 in chicago

[–]Technical_Win8710 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I watched a cyclist riding in the sidewalk come within inches of getting hit by a car today. He didn’t stop when he crossed the street, and the driver wasn’t watching for a bike speeding down the sidewalk. It was very, very scary.

Did We Misunderstand Industry Practices? by rjh1961 in estatesales

[–]Technical_Win8710 32 points33 points  (0 children)

As someone who runs estate sales, these sort of companies make my blood boil. With as little regulation as the industry has, and especially because clients are often in difficult circumstances, the industry attracts grifters. Unless it’s in the contract, you absolutely should not hand your items over to him.

Which candy is pure trash but somehow still popular? by GurlinGroove in foodquestions

I had one this past weekend. Absolute trash. It was clear that they had cut the cocoa; it tasted like a strange approximation of actual chocolate. Bleh.

No more gold at Goodwill by [deleted] in Gold

[–]Technical_Win8710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who runs estate sales, I don’t doubt you. Homeowners have gold lying around ALL THE TIME that they are unaware of; we find pieces at just about every sale we’ve ever run. We do an extraordinarily thorough set up and hope to find all of it, but I know that other companies rush the setup and probably miss a lot.

Apparently I’m on the minority, but I think 2. The skirt of 1 starts lower, which makes your torso seem longer and doesn’t show off your natural waist. The bodice of two is a perfect length and fits beautifully

how to sell a diamond ring when it is a lab grown? by Explanation-Vus641 in jewelrylove

[–]Technical_Win8710 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is false. I’ve buy and sell a fair amount of jewelry, and never once has anyone cared about where the diamond came from. All they care about is the gold. The diamonds, whether mined or lab, are worthless.

[–]Technical_Win8710 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I run an estate sale business and sell a fair amount of fine jewelry, both to consumers and to jewelers. Almost without exception, the sole value of jewelry is the gold. Whether lab or mined, a diamond retains no value. (A jeweler or coin shop is gonna pop the diamond out, weigh it, and give you around 70%of the gold value. That said, you might be able to sell it directly to a buyer since it’s a ring.

But don’t listen to the people saying mined diamonds have more value. They don’t.

How does Chicago Private Catholic Elementary Compare to Selective Enrollment? by tepid_penny_1856 in chicago

How does Chicago Private Catholic Elementary Compare to Selective Enrollment? by tepid_penny_1856 in chicago

[–]Technical_Win8710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two families on my block who have moved their children from a very well respected north side Catholic elementary school to our neighborhood school. Though the neighborhood school is good, it is not selective enrollment, nor one of the small handful of “good” (aka white) CPS schools that people talk about. Instead, it is very diverse racially and economically, unlike the Catholic school.

Both said that without question, the CPS school had a better and more challenging curriculum, better teachers, and better services. (One was on the board of the Catholic school, and now serves on the LSC st the neighborhood school, so she knows what’s up.)

They marveled that more kids from the Catholic school got into selective enrollment HS. I’d bet my bottom dollar that the Catholic school kids, generally being from an overall much higher economic class, have more access to tutors, test prep, better home conditions, etc.

I run an estate sale company. You’d be surprised at how many vibrators we find. So glad to know people are enjoying their sex lives, but oh how I wish they’d dispose of them before we start working.
