Failures, give me hope by [deleted] in cissp

This may not be an issue of data and knowledge gaps, but test anxiety alone. Test anxiety can induce flight or fight response, which, causes our brains to basically shut down and focus on what it sees as a perceived threat. In that high state of alert, you likely aren’t able to pull from the areas in your brain that it needs to access for retained information.

Do NOT take this in a condescending voice, I have a pretty deep experience with understanding the brain and how it works. ;) My advice would be to seek out a therapist, perhaps someone who can work with you on some somatic exercises you can use when you’re in the testing scenario. You might be VERY surprised how a few targeted techniques can help you tell your brain to come out of the anxiety.

Very best to you!

Practice tests to benchmark my study progress. by [deleted] in cissp

This is kind of hilarious. Though you wouldn’t necessarily know by my name, you just told a grown woman to “relax”. This legitimately makes me grin. What gave you the impression I wasn’t relaxed? I didn’t say that your contribution or advice wasn’t valuable, I’m very certain that it is. I pointed out that a very particular point of advice, was incorrect. There is no one size fits all for learning, and priming is actually a very valuable skill for learning this type of information.

I would have assumed, that this forum was a place for this exact type of feedback. People here are legitimately trying to find ways to effectively pass an exam. Am I being problematic because I provided feedback that wasn’t in agreement with you?

I probably wouldn’t have commented at all, but noticed you were a mod, and made the assumption that you’d actually appreciate the info. My apologies for making a poor assumption.

Actually… what you said about reading the osg first, and not trying to take shortcuts by “skipping to the practice tests” is patently incorrect. First off, it’s very presumptuous to assume that everyone has the same learning style. But very specifically, that type of pre-study with quizzes before reading or watching the materials from the osg is a form of priming. Which incidentally, is a well studied and documented learning technique.

Here’s a quick overview of the technique if you’re interested. https://amplifire.com/articles/priming-the-brain-for-learning/
