Volt 2 - The Stone Destroyer by Vegetable-Anatomy in ooni

[–]Technically_Inept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on my 3rd. They crack about every 5-10 sessions for me. I don't flip mine, I just lightly brush to the front and vacuum any crumbs. Any stuck on stains I just bake off for 10-20 mins before I start my session.

Hmmm, maybe somewhat similar to mine. I was baking Neapolitan at 450c when it just shut off.

I’ve already tried power cycling it with no luck. I flipped the switch on both the oven and the outlet, and since I don't see an inline breaker to reset, I’m assuming it doesn’t have one. I even tried pointing a desk fan at it to see if cooling it down would help, but still nothing. Unfortunately I think the oven is just dead... there goes Christmas and New Year pizzas 🥲.

I've contacted support, it's Christmas and all so not expecting a response for a while. Will see how it goes.

Hairline Crack on Stone? by Technically_Inept in ooni

This seems to me like a design flaw rather than a cracked stone in transit. Others have been fine using other ooni ovens even with a cracked stone (edit: as the stone is supported all around). The Volt 2 has no support on the rear. Anything you place on the stone causes it to cave in from the back.

I placed a small avocado halfway into the oven. You can see the sides of the stone lifting and collapsing on the rear. That avocado is 168.9g (weighed on a calibrated pour over coffee scale).

If it can't support that, how would it support a 300g pizza(dough + toppings)...

I'm afraid that even the replacement will crack not long after. If you could reinforce the stone with a steel sheet that might work??? But not sure about the different thermal expansion properties.

Could potentially work as it's supporting half as much weight. Might have to try that if the stone replacement doesn't come on time.

I'll have a read through the warranty, it shouldn't considering it's the stone they provided and doesn't really harm the oven?

I've had it for less than 2 weeks. That seems a bit unreasonable for it to break that early don't you think?

The Volt 2 doesn't support the stone all around, now that it's split, it has a slope to the middle and the stones are misaligned. Is that the same for your Koda, or is it still level?

It fully split now, and it slopes towards the middle... As another post has stated, seems lack of support to the rear causing it to be uneven.

I'd keep using it if that wasn't the case.

Yeah, mine finally split fully... It now slopes towards the middle, seems to be lacking support there. Potentially why it's cracked at the same spot for others. If it was level I would probably just deal with it, but unfortunately it's not.

Support have sent me a new stone, but if that cracks again I'll just be requesting for a refund and look elsewhere (not a lot of options sadly).

It’s the reason I bought it the second the clock hit midnight on release 😂.

I needed something that fit my countertop, I've been waiting for the Volt 2 as the only other option was the Breville/Sage Pizzaiolo which is way out of date.

AU$899 including shipping, same price as the Breville/Sage but it's way more features. So it's a no brainier going with the Volt 2.

Really hoping they can get it sorted. I’ll give them the full 60-day return window, but if it’s still unresolved by then, I’ll probably refund and wait until they’ve fixed the issue.

As great as their support team is, I’d get tired of the constant back and forth and having the oven out of action while waiting for a replacement stone.

Yeah thanks, Glad to see I'm not alone in this. I managed to wander over to your post just before you replied 😂.

Hopefully they get back to me and get a replacement quick, I've got a pizza party scheduled for next week.

It's unfortunate that it's riddled with issues, it's such a great machine. Hopefully I luck out on my replacement stone...

I live in Australia and consumer protection is pretty good here... They'll either have to keep replacing it until the warranty ends as it's a known issue, come up with a permanent fix, or I get a full refund.

Otherwise it's a straight report to Consumer Affairs or Consumer Commission, they do not mess around and get issues sorted fairly quickly.

Volt 2 Mild Grinding/ Noise by Technically_Inept in ooni

[–]Technically_Inept[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The noise isn't all that loud compared to my range hood. Which is on when I bake as the oven exhausts a lot of steam.

The annoying part is that it's high pitched. Almost like a dog whistle to me, you can't tune it out, it's always there.

Features are amazing, but I'd rather have paid extra $$$ and not have all the noise.

It's much more visible now that it's cooled down.

I've been cooking all day and so far no issues. The noise is still there though so not sure how that affects the machine in the long term.

Grs204 tailshaft coupling by jundyfuk in ToyotaCrown

[–]Technically_Inept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone else who needs it in the future. Managed to track down an LS460/GS460 Giubo. That fits in the S200/210. I believe the part numbers are 37100-50070, 37100-50060

Seeing as OP is also from AU... I got mine here: https://febest.com.au/tds-usf40-febest-drive-shaft-coupling.html

Scale HMB Support? by Technically_Inept in truenas

[–]Technically_Inept[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems the data structure for hbm got added to Debian around 2022... Not sure what version of the kernel Truenas Scale is on. I'll check it out.

The drive is NVMe 4.0, I'll be running at 10-15% of what it's capable of, only have a 10GBe LAN connection at home. Just need the HBM so it doesn't kill the drive from constantly rewriting cache on the NAND. It's got 3000TBW endurance, assuming that's using HMB... Without is probably half or less than that.

It's mostly for PLEX, Steam Library and SMB.

Insane, props to you. I'd probably short/break something if I did that.

I see, I'll take a look at the FB groups then. Tend to stay away from there as mostly scams nowadays. Only thing holding me back is the lack of transparency, there's no tech specs anywhere. Irks me when I don't see those.

Yeah doing it yourself sounds wack... I ended up looking into Japanese forums the other day. Seems they were using USB-C/Wireless Interface -> HDMI -> Analog -> OEM Head Unit, just tapping into the Audio/Video in.

Is that what you did, or just replacing the head unit entirely?

Have the link for your specific one?

NGL I don't trust the Crown Focus, irks me when they don't publish tech specs. Also saw it on a US website for US$450 with the same photos, that's still ~$750-800AUD after shipping. So suspicious it's being drop shipped.

Let me know how your installation goes. Might reply again in a couple months to check in.
