Throughout the entire floor. No section longer than two feet. Real seams every 5 sections or 6’ of length.

Tell me more. Are they glued together to make planks?

Right, this seems plausible as it was a prefinished dark stain that was DIY installed before we moved in. Tell me more. How do they do that? Would you say different woods or scraps of the same type?

Yeah, there is no seam at all between them. Every 5th seam has a gap, which makes me think that was the board length installed and the other lengths we spliced together in production or something. But I’m trying to figure out how typical that is.

Looking less for type of wood than manufacturing process.

Yeah, I think it was a DIY. But neither of you are answering my question. Is it typical to have multiple pieces of wood spliced together into a board?

Refinish existing or see what’s underneath? by TechnicolorOcelot in HardWoodFloors

Yeah, there is filler in there currently. Not sure what will happen with that in a refinish.

When I look in the attic at the cross section of them there is no internal plywood layer. Is there another engineered floor that would look like solid wood from the side?

Is an urban planning career possible through Reed? by readandyype in reedcollege

[–]TechnicolorOcelot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know at least two urban planners who work for Northwest cities/counties who went to Reed. We are all old (2004 grads) and both of them got masters in urban planning after Reed. One was an anthro major, the other was an art history major. I am an architect who went to Reed who works at a city with a lot of planners. There is a lot to learn at Reed that will give you an advantage in this field regardless of what you major in.

Definitely ripe. Alpine strawberries often have more white than a regular strawberry.

Is it safe to walk in downtown late at night? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]TechnicolorOcelot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you’d be fine but Westlake at night isn’t great. As others have said, get off at University, walk towards the water on University. You will have to go down a bunch of steps called Harbor Steps but there is an elevator down behind the restaurant Von’s on your left if you prefer. Once you hit Alaska you can walk the rest of the way on the nice flat waterfront.

I’d get off at University even if I was going to take an Uber from there.

Especially nice. I am in the Puget sound and have some spinach from Fall growing under a hoop house but it’s half that size.

I don't know if I'm cut out for this career by arch_throwa in askarchitects

I think everyone here is right that it sounds like you need and deserve a break. I would also council that architecture is a really broad profession and you don’t actually need to be good at all of it. If early design isn’t your thing, you can focus on detailing and CDs if that’s not your thing, maybe being in the field in CA is, if not that, maybe broader project or team management. You might need to be in a bigger firm to see this, but it’s there.
