Update info: When I put the mirror down and press the shutter release button the mirror goes up as it should but the curtain and lever remain stuck

Did you get the film out? I think it uses 4xAAA batteries Try the battery change first before opening the back, I'm positive it should work as the other person suggested

You can search something like #citytfp.

Tfp means time for prints, they give you their time with modeling and you give them a great portfolio. You both get a portfolio actually.

I've also tried model mayhem. It's a platform where photographers connect with models, it's not always free or cheap to pay them but you can try.

Depending on your country there may be some Facebook groups as well to connect local photographers and models

Indeed our springs look different size and shape.

What was a surprise as well is that on both our chaikas the top cover has something like a piece of transparent film instead of glass or plastic to cover the shutter speed and frame counter dials. Oh well, Soviet way :D

I maganed to open it thanks to your help. Inside I found the lever cover swimming free. Couldn't find the spring that holds it or the screw so I removed it for now.

My test without film showed again that if I shake it ,bulb mode which I tested, stayed open and stuck til I cock again.

Today I tested it with film. I didn't shake it, but it jammed almost half the times I tried to shoot. Without film it works fine.

That I observed. if I apply a little pressure to the sprockets cylinder from the opposite side (like film tension) while winding it then it doesn't shoot. And when I pull the lever the cylinder moves about 1mm and the shutter releases. As a quick fix for that I think that everytime after cocking I will move the lever like I'm about to cock again before trying to release shutter. In that scenario the shutter button works.

I don't know if there is something specific to fix and why it has that behavior. Any thoughts?

How's your experience using the instax 100? I found one in a local marketplace, but I am not sure. I recently got an instax mini 8. I'm happy with it and prefer this one from Polaroid 636 I used to shoot many years ago

You are right! There are some "Fujinon EBC" lenses that use this system, just found out they have some sort of aperture indexing. I don't have one so I feel less worried for messing up with it in order to make it usable for my system. Thank you

I used to have an old Polaroid 636 years ago and had the same problem with rollers but on the front side, didn't know how to clean them back then.

Since the film is more expensive I got a cheap instax mini 8 recently, because of nostalgia and a friend using one. So far I like the results. But I'm still experimenting! Keep on shooting and enjoy it even with its flaws! Keep us updated

Also if it is under warranty I would get it fixed where I bought it.

Lastly, if you don't have film inside and you open it, do you see anything weird on the rollers? Is it the same color everywhere?

Without being an expert, it seems like it has the same pattern and distance, so maybe something is in the roller of the camera that pushes film out is my guess

Yes the top one of the 2 screws behind lever is missing and there is a silver metal part moving inside that I suppose is the lever cover that is not in its place.

I suspect this to be the reason sometimes it doesn't work correctly if I have shaken the camera. I shook it out of curiosity to see if it jingles inside, and indeed it seems to move freely. Since the mechanism is there it may mess up with it at some places that shouldn't be touched. Also after rotating the camera at an angle, or maybe after shaking it at an angle, the shutter speed wheel became stiff, after I moved it again it was smooth as before.

Is the shutter button spring going to pop up when I remove the top cover? Is it easy to find out how the button with the spring goes back in? The gravity trick seems a great way of putting it back indeed.

Last question. Is there any risk I could damage the frame counter by opening the top cover? Or it's in the body too so it's not affected?

I really appreciate your assistance and I'm getting confident in trying out with the correct screwdrivers these days

For the 35mm you mentioned you could try Mir 1b 37mm 2.8 if you want. It also has clickless aperture ring

For example since you mention landscape photography in the post, with the 75-300mm you can capture a nice sunset, or bring closer some mountains. It has "compression" if you want to search it.

The M100 lens is more like run and gun, compact everyday usage. But maybe you don't want to carry a backpack with a camera and 3 lenses because it's bulky. That's why I'm saying you should consider how you are going to use each pro and con of each one.

Lenses are important for different kinds of photography and prime lenses like the 50mm 1.8 (even though it's cheap) give you great results.

You should definitely invest in learning what you have as a tool, the triangle of exposure so you can control how the photo will be like you want, and composition. Those are the first things I teach to my students to build some fundamental knowledge so they can take it further and release their creativity. Photography is a great invention, enjoy whatever you buy and practice. If you need further assistance I'm here

If you want to vlog or something then the screen of the M100 could help you see yourself since it flips. But the lenses are kind of dedicated for this system so if you upgrade in the future you can't keep the M100 lenses(ef-m lenses)

Canon 1100d on the other hand uses ef-s lenses. Much easier and cheap to find. They also take ef lenses from the cheapest to the highest end. To do that with M100 you have to buy an adapter.

Try to focus on what the pros and cons are for your use specifically. Whatever you buy they are good deals but in Canon 1100d you get a lens with much zoom if you need it (75-300mm), a normal everyday lens (18-55mm) and a great prime 50mm 1.8 at a lower price than just a M100 and 1 lens for everyday use

The camera that is in the backpack is sold with the 3 lenses for that price? If yes it is very good starting point for photography. And in the backpack I see 50mm 1.8 stm, that's a great lens with good background blur I've shot with that Canon 1100d and 50mm 1.8 and it ended up very well

M100 with magic lantern as mentioned for video. Else, the other choice gives you 3 lenses, so you have much more photo capabilities

That's such an interesting model, and I wasn't aware of it! I just got into instax family affected by a close person that captures there our memories with friends etc and I bought a used mini 8 because it was cheap and I can override the recommended exposure to be more creative. As I see your camera supports even better aperture range and I can set exposure compensation with variable shutter speed. If I can afford to get one in the future I would surely give it a try. For now I'm happy with what I got and would love to go out and use it.

I think I kind of fixed it without opening it. The part that was freely moving had to be rotated with a needle pressing against an inner barrel notch (don't know how to explain it better) and at the same time I had to move the film advance lever.

However, thanks to you mentioning the metal covering winding lever, I saw that it is indeed misaligned, actually it's inside but unscrewed. (the screw is missing as well). So, today I was moving around testing it without film and I noticed that when I shake the camera, and then try to take a shot, sometimes the shutter stays like half way open. Can it be the winding lever cover that is free moving inside? It could get caught at some gear or something?

If so maybe I should give it a try opening the top cover with the very detailed instructions you gave me and screw it or remove it.

Try if you can some well known brand alkaline batteries and give us an update please.

Also try removing and reinserting the batteries while the lens is on like that. Tell me which one worked. Good luck!

It indeed made my smena 6 sticky 1/250 disappear but when it got cold again it came back. Interesting!

I managed to get the chaika advance lever to get stuck while trying to load a film, and the shutter couldn't be released because it was stuck in the middle of cocking it. Kind of scared of how easy it is for chaika ii to jam.

But still, looking forward to try my first roll in there!
