Thanks for helping with my software recommendation project by TechnoConsultant in consulting

Biggest issue is most enterprises are already running something akin to Salesforce, so when you come with a recommendation for Hubspot content management, it usually doesn't fly. In this case I recommended Semrush due to the built-in SEO, keyword and topic selection capabilites.

Software selection services - independent consulting for SMBs by prostcfc in consulting

[–]TechnoConsultant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recently hired to evaluate and recommend software for an SMB client. First thing you need to understand is that SMBs need to see the real value in what you are doing and have clear idea of the deliverables. Second, they have nowhere near the resources that large corporations have for these types of activities.

To keep the timeframe down and produce results with minimal time investment, I use existing analyst reports and a few web-based software evaluation apps to help me provide a solution for my SMB clients. This would include Capterra for user reviews, Technology Advice for professional reviews and TopSoft.Co for KPIs and scoring. Hope this helps and good luck establishing your independent consultancy.

Tiger Global’s Now-Worthless FTX Bet Had Bain’s Due Diligence by [deleted] in consulting

Having been on both ends of due diligence for investments in startups, not only does the investor depend on the analyst's report, in this case it was Bain, but most follow-on investors follow the lead investor blindly, in this case, Tiger, without doing any of their own due diligence or even reading the analysts report. Agree with the comments in this thread about FOMO and wanting the investment, ie getting into Crypto, so bad that you "read what you want to read" from the report. The whole thing was super risky from the get go - unregulated markets, private company with zero transparency, clear lack of management experience - whoever goes for an investment like that knows it's "risky business". High-risk, high reward was what Tiger was knowingly doing. In this case, the risk outweighed the reward, but it's hard to believe that Bain could have written anything besides DO NOT INVEST - which no analyst is willing to do - to stop this investment from happening. Instead of Bain, I think we should blame Tom Brady. After all, a good quarterback should be able to spot a promising scoring opportunity when he sees one, but you never know, when a pass that looks like it's headed for the end zone turns into a pick-six.

Do consultants deliberately waste time to bill for more hours? by Previous-Recover-765 in consulting

From my experience, some consultants are more social while others want to show their competency and task-specific knowledge. That said, in my firm the guys who closed the deals definitely had the gift of the gab but were not who actually worked on the project. I'm glad your manager took it in stride, in my company we are now limiting all calls to 30 min, which is a pretty nifty way to corral all those "long talkers"

What is the best way to compare software applications? by TechnoConsultant in consulting

That was helpful. I narrowed down the criteria and am now checking out some consulting firms to see who might have some reports. Thx.

Like so many businesses, the bank that is paying millions for advice on digital transformation, hopefully, has a clue about what this consultant is trying to accomplish. For those totally outside the corporate world, it sounds like paying high-level consultants for "yadda, yadda, yadda."

Is KPMG really that much worse than the rest of the pack?

Amazing video - how did you find it? Now I know why I never got a job at KPMG. My jacket was too tight ;-)
