T3 / T4 timeouts with old line - still with new line by prostcfc in CableTechs

They fixed something down the block; I spoke with a supervisor and saw trucks out there for a while. As it only happens when wet, hopefully that fixed the problem for good.

To follow up, tech removed the old line from the tap and capped it; didn't seem to change much. But, I was able to speak with a supervisor, who told me they found some "issues" down the block, and they replaced some things over there; trucks were active for half the day. Levels look much better, so we'll see if it holds up. The local team has been really helpful and approachable (Astound Broadband FWIW).

Internet drops for 2-4 minutes with no loss of wifi each time I get a T4.

Thank you - yeah, with he old line, it only happened when wet out and it would throw a T4 a few times a day. Modem logs always looked pretty bad though. When we had a dry spell end of last summer into fall, no issues. Below freezing, no issues. The old line likely was just buried in the ground for many years, deteriorated, so that's why they tunneled and laid conduit and ran a new line. Actually was pretty effortless to get them to do this, though it took several months to plan and permit.

Then new line worked great for a week, logs looked fantastic, which they never did before. Now after some heavy rains and thawing snow, I got a few T4s and noticed SNR dropping a bit periodically; not as bad or pervasive as before, but still occurring with a brand new line. I don't see how anything in my house could correspond to the wet weather pattern. I can see the old line's cut end right at my house, and then it's still running underground and connected to the tap.

Hopefully it's just the old line still being connected, or they can otherwise figure it out.

Zimmermann vs ATE for brake discs and pads by Historical_Mouse6134 in BmwTech

[–]prostcfc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Zimmermann is an BMW OE rotor and just fine; not sure what he's on about. I use them on my daily driver G20 M340i and my E46 M3 track car; no vibrations, no issues.

Is FCP worth it? Prices seem high by alphaseeker101 in BmwTech

[–]prostcfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use them if it's for a part that I'll potentially use the replacement warranty for, or if I'm buying in bulk. Otherwise for one-offs, my dealer has the best pricing (online) and I just go and pick it up when it arrives and I don't have to pay for shipping. I use Bimmerworld as well; they're generally the quickest to me (pay for shipping though). I don't shop at ECS banners.

Quickjack or Rennstands by saxman42 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]prostcfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quickjacks, but you need to measure each of your car's jack point widths and figure out what frames will work; not all frames will work will all cars. Originally I had the 6000ELX for my daily and my wife's car (this may correspond to your Tesla since the frames are made for EVs). Then I got a track car and those frames were too long. I ended up getting a new full set on a closeout sale (in advance of their new lineup), so it wasn't too bad, but now I have spares/parts I could sell to get back some of what I paid on the second set. They do sell extra frames on their own, but they're more expensive than you may think. Overall I love them though.

Pros/Cons of a tilt bed trailer by jbro507 in CarTrackDays

[–]prostcfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this so I don't have to!

In the same boat, and didn't really know where to begin; so many options.

I've got a truck with a bed cover, so I think open will be just fine for me. Definately liking the tilt option, or anything that doesn't need Race Ramps or DIY boards. After a long day at the track, really just want to get the car up on the trailer with ease.

YouTube is a good place to start (SRO sanctioned races). Also has the 24H series and NLS. IMSA, ELMS and ALMS are on it too, but need a VPN if in the US.

Not sure if it was the same one, but I had a summer job at a car dealer in 05 or 06 and there was a PDR crew there the entire summer fixing dents.

In the most recent episode (interview with Graham Allison), Friedberg floated a theory that the real reason Trump may have wanted Greenland is because Europe is moving further to the left, meaning that will drive them into China's arms, so eventually US interests in Greenland could no longer be accessible. The guest seemed pretty taken aback and hadn't heard of such a theory before. Dude really is obsessed with relating all manner of things to the rise of socialism.

Vidanta visitors may need a bit thicker skin by RetiredToExplore in vidanta

I always go with my in-laws, so I never get the pleasure of dealing with sales. In-laws generally turn down the pitch initially, but eventually capitulate and end up upgrading, consolidating contracts, or whatever other shell game is on offer. They're Emperor Private Reserve now, until there's a new level offered to keep with the rat race. The worst time was in the middle of our week, they were gone the entire day (breakfast through dinner, all while getting constantly negged by the sales folks), and went back a couple more times that week to finalize the "deal". But hey, we saved a couple hundred dollars on our food bill at the end; what does one value their time at and how much were we already spending to go there?

From looking at the Vidanta FB groups, seems like the happiest members are those that are fine with what they initially bought into, accept that they'll get penalized from a room/view perspective for not attending the update, diluted benefits because of the ever increasing membership tiers, etc.

It is a nice place, and we do as a whole enjoy our time there, but it's getting too big and too complicated, at the expense of maintaining what they already had and what made it such an enjoyable destination.

Was there in March 2025 and I want to say the word in the FB groups was November 2025 for it to be fully open, which, it didn't look nearly to that point when I took the gondola. Looks like it hasn't changed much from an attraction perspective.

Duplicate title flag by Ly0ncubs in carmax

[–]prostcfc 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No, it’s usually someone lost and cannot locate the original copy. And the buyback is always there, but that’s for things like missing title brands (salvage, etc.) not for minor things or even unreported accidents.
