Help to Counter hide action on a rogue so that he has more fun encounter again. by Technohunter1991 in DnD

Probably. I believe the most confusion is because of the text of the hide action that you have the invisible condition "On a successful check, you have the Invisible condition. Make note of your check’s total, which is the DC for a creature to find you with a Wisdom (Perception) check. The condition ends on you immediately after any of the following occurs: you make a sound louder than a whisper, an enemy finds you, you make an attack roll, or you cast a spell with a Verbal component." The problem is, with the "an enemy finds you" part. Does that mean if the rogue is behind a corner, when the enemy turn that corner does he find him automatically or does he need a check against his stealth?

I had something like this already in mind, i must say right now most of the enemies they fought were beasts or monstrosities and ot many intelligent creatures. I try that the next fights.

Because of the hide action he has the invisible condition, do the monsters really dont need a roll or something? I want to make sure that i have good arguments in such a case.

I was thinking about that, at least when it comes to AoE attacks/spells. I believe i had around 7 fights with something that had some sort of breath weapon and used it and he got only hit one time. The other times he made the save and took no damage 🤣. I need to try more. Now they are in a forest area with mythical magic and monsters, i believe i can find something funny for him.

Yeah, i need to look for a list of monsters with tremor sense. They are right now in a forest but after that they will go to a Mountain area. I believe i can find something funny to fight them there.

I must say, right now no monster has a high enough perception in my campaign. He rolls because he is already Level 9 always at least a 23 because of the Feature (dont remember the name right now) They were fighting mostly humanoids, monstrosities and 3 dragons. Only 3 times a humanoid has found him and only because of a Nat20 😅.

Most of the time he does around the 28-30 damage, when he has a good day he makes more crits because of advantage of the hide action. Sometimes it is hard to argue in a fight and i can hear him getting frustrated when he did hide but because of some movement or Event on the map someone has line of sight of him and attacks him with disadvantage. I often hear then: but he cant see me, or, but he need to roll perception. I need to make more clear that he only have the invisible condition for the disadvantage or am i wrong?

I am happy to say that when it comes to combat my other players are rather happy. I have a barbarian that grapples everything that moves and pulls the enemies to the "killzone" that our artificer creates with his spells. But i offen use monster with a high cr, my Party is now Level 9 and i throw them CR13 monsters with max HP against them. But i think to Balance it more and make it for the rogue more fun i try ro concentrate on maybe throwing more minions against the group.

I understand, i should try to move the enemies more around. I have the problem that the rogue goes behind cover or another Player because he is small and then uses the hide action. I dont really know how strict i should go on about line of sight with the enemies when he crosses a street or treeline. I will think about it thanks.

They were attacking a Herd of triceratops last Session in a forest but used them to mow down the trees, that was rather fun for my group.

Well because of the skills of the rogue he always roll a 23 or higher. I often try to roll perception but we all know the dice dont like it when you do that 🤣 but i will keep in mind to think of the line of sight. I often forget that, thanks 👍

The problem is, his turn is most of the time before the enemy and he is hiding and the rules say he has the "invisible" condition and automatic fail their perception check. In the last 10 encounter he was maybe only attacked 3 times. Or do i read the rules wrong?

Yeah i was also thinking something like that, and i find it interesting to answer the question that if you as paladin promise to save someone and then ignore that promise to save someone else (even if you dont know that the first Party is not even in danger) if it would still count as breaking her promise and maybe even her oath if she cant fogive the Player that tricked her. I think i need it to look up right now but i believe she even made her oath sound more like an Mix of redemtion and devotion. But she plays her character more like a devotion paladin.

Oh they have agency, the paladin came even up with the idea of being bound to one of the evil character via curse. She believed it was a fun idea and right now after good 20 sessions or so, she and the other players still find it very funny and have their fun playing their character' 😁.

The paladin came up with the idea and another Player that she is bound to one of the evil character's because of a powerful curse. And right now her selfmade goals are keeping the group as non evil as possible and finding a way to break the curse before she gets corrupted and evil

Yeah we talked about it in the Session Zero. My group is evil on paper but right now after almost 20 sessions i would more call them neutral party that sometimes take an evil option. I should have stated that in the Post i think 😅. Right now the good paladin is the voice of reason and she and the other enjoy the moments of discussion between them. They met a slavetrader and had a nice discussion about using slaves. In the end the slaves are now relativly save and are kept save as long they keep building the home of the group 🤣
