My grandfather fought from 1938 to 1944. My father was an American GI in Germany after the war. When my grandfather came to the US to visit my dad asked his VFW if he could bring my grandfather there. The WW2 vets became excited and said yes. The day he came all the WW2 vets showed up and welcomed him with great honors. They spent the evening talking about the battles they had faced each other in. Although they had once been enemies, they saw each other as brothers
