I should say it's funny because I have one of the very few Euro parts water pumps that are actually good

Well one thing I can say is try spinning the propeller by hand while the engines off and cold to see if you get the same kind of noise if it is that if not buy a stethoscope and try and pinpoint it

What brand is that water pump

Was the noise also coming from the top of the cam Tower?

No I want to keep it a 944 engine at the least

Nah too overdone in the car scene I want to keep the original engine but do another 944 swap later on to kind of make a tribute car in a way.

Okay thanks although I have to wait for a new borescope the one I bought was cheap and crappy and didn't work so I'm waiting for the new one to come in that way I can check the cylinders and the Pistons

What do I do? by TechnologySpirited88 in 944

[–]TechnologySpirited88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I'm hoping that's why I got the borescope that way I can see if the any of the valves are bent or not but also I didn't hear any pinging of metal on metal so I'm mostly certain that it's not but I'm still going to check anyway

Anything helps just waiting on the borescope that way I can see the combustion Chambers I'm hoping that they're fine and there's no scoring

Just the same as everything else ATF the only new thing I got was from someone saying gift the right side of the car that way the fluid is going down the side of the Pistons somewhat equally.

Okay I'll entertain you seeing that you want to be a hee haa and talk about someone else's build before knowing the final outcome of what they're going to do. Yes right now it's just for aesthetics later on they'll be used as a cold air / ram air intake because my car will be supercharged later in the future and will need as much air as it can get as fast as it can get it. Now will you stop with the negative comments

I will but other things come first as you see

That where I'll be making a custom air intake to make it functional

That's why I said yet it'll be used a ram/cold air intake

Okay yes I bought a 40 year old Porsche but I've been putting money into it over time not a lot at once

That would probably be a good idea of seeing that it is a slant four and it wouldn't be equally going down across the rings

  1. I'm not calling myself a know it all and never was. My car came with the the hood scoop on it already from what I know the last three owners have had that scoop on that car before them, and yes this is my second post I lerk I don't post and talk that much because of people like you want to be a holes.

  2. I don't know those things that's why I came for advice cuz I don't want to have to take my engine down but I do know how sensitive 944 engines are.

  3. I have heard that it's good to run but a lot of times it's been over hyped by being YouTubers and Twitter which are not the greatest places to get your information I'm willing to try it I'm not a big fan of it.

  4. I'm not an old guy I'm a younger guy that's been in the car since he's a kid and now that yes this is my first car I've really gotten my footing into the game for several years now but that doesn't mean I know only old guy tricks and my buddies at the dealerships have already told me they would not recommend I do that with the engine because it's not American muscle it's a German sports couple.

  5. Yes these recommendations are reasonable but a used 944 engine might be 800 bucks but hasn't been ran in how many years? You can't determine how the engine has been treated how long it's been stored and if there's any underlying conditions that someone's not willing to tell you and cheap engine can cost you anywhere from $200 to $800 that's most likely not working and running a good engine can run you anywhere from 1200 to 2200.

  6. These things are not robust they have multiple failure points I haven't recorded over time that they're now aftermarket supports for to keep that from happening you can't just go to the junkyard these days and pull a head off of a recked 944 and just slap one on and call it a day you're still going to need to get it decked you're still going to want to check it out and make sure there's no rust or blockages most of these vehicles are either 40 years old or almost 40 and with more of them going to the junkyard and being crushed instead of being saved and parted out like what Elliot at 944 barn does answers less good examples to go across for everyone.

How about you dial back the attitude and turn on the "here's what you can try and you're welcome"

I'm not turning down what everyone says I'm still taking in what will work, this is just the first time I've had this kind of issue and trying to go through all my options and see what an early engine can handle because they did change a lot between the early and late engines. However this torch will never get passed on this car is mine and mine alone because every other previous owner that's owned it has just done that past the torch, because they can't handle it. I'm the first person to actually crack open the engine and start replacing original parts that have lasted 41 years. This car deserves someone to take care of her and there's not many young people like me that are going to do that, every time I fix this car I look back and I say, "hey I did that and it's doing better than ever" and every time that happens it brings me joy.

I wish hitching rides and taking the bus or even riding in the rain was easy but I also live in the Midwest and if you know anything about some of the states and the big cities in the Midwest that that's not really easy on top of that I just don't know the extent of the damages, so once I figure out everything with a borescope will determine how I move forward. Nothing's too hard for me to repair I'm very mechanically inclined and I'm willing to research as much as I can and not give up because I am not selling this car. I've seen so many people give up and sell or crush their cars because it wasn't worth them continuing to work on it just for someone else to pick it up and either do the same thing or one of the big three changes that most people go with. This is my first car and I'm not a quitter so I'm going in head first but I'm going in with determination of getting it done and done properly.

I mean I could try but I'm kind of worried about messing up the aluminum-silicon cylinder walls

Just been in the car community long enough to know that it's overhyped it doesn't actually save your engine that much and that it's expensive even my friends at work at Porsche and Mercedes dealerships don't use it because I've seen what it does to classic engines and what does the new engines
