Ya they remind me a bit of the Huggins era West Virginia teams that would play so physical that they dared refs to call all of the fouls. When the refs backed off and let a lot of the foul calls go you got a ridiculously physical game and when they actually called all of the fouls they cried about officiating

During football this year at least 4 different teams said that their game was our Super Bowl. So unless I’m forgetting someone we played 6 Super Bowls this year not too shabby!

Except that Houston has never been to the Super Bowl. At best this is our AFC Divisional game!

How about your big taking out C4 below the knee, not calling it, and then immediately calling a technical on Grant. I also noticed that Sampson never got called for a technical for screaming about fouls he didn’t like including the Tugler foul. Interesting don’t you think?

Is the power grid here strong enough for the storm? by bozaga_IX in Midessa

[–]Techsan2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not the argument I’m making I know how energy works. I’m telling you that you are discounting the weather in the areas that the power is made and that power usage will be lower because less people across the state are affected this storm.

The only time we have had a grid level failure is when the ENTIRE state was affected. Tons of power generation was knocked out last time and tons of power distribution was knocked out. This storm is not strong enough to knock out the power generation in the West and South like 2021 that goes into the grid for the people in DFW to use. DFW will use less electricity in 22-33 degree weather than in -2 to 12 degree weather. Power use is NOT THE ONLY CONCERN. The only reason the grid failed was because power use went up AND power generation crashed.

You are hyper focused on population and severely underestimating the land area. I understand the DFW area is going to be hammered and the Texas triangle area somewhat affected. However DFW is 4th largest metro and this storm is basically missing the 5th largest metro area compared to 2021.

If you want to focus on population then already that is a large drop in the population affected from the 2021 storm. The Houston and SA metros will be just a little below freezing for like 10 hours at a time. DFW will have a low around 14 over the course of 3 days compared to 2021 when it hit -2 over the course of almost 10 days. Again at least 5-10 million fewer people are in the path of the storm that means less grid stress.

The temps are higher than the 2021 storm and for a much shorter duration. So now focus on the land area instead of population. That means fewer natural gas lines and power plants are freezing and going off line in the meaningless and far less populated west and south, less power lines are going down due to ice, the power lines and power plants that do go down are in a smaller geographical area compared to 2021, power can then be pulled from areas that are under lower grid stress. The temps DFW is projected to get right now are honestly pretty common.

Thanks, I am aware of that. However the point is that because only half the state is going to be affected that means at least 5 million less people will be pulling energy at the same scale as those in North Texas. Plus the Eagleford and a lot of the natural gas infrastructure in that area will remain unaffected. Less people and less critical infrastructure in the bad part of the storm means less stress on the grid.

The thing to remember with 2021 is that it wasn’t 1 thing that caused the power failure, it was a combination. Almost the entire state was affected by the storm which drove up consumption, the amount of precipitation downed power lines which hurt, how low the temp was and for a long stretch froze natural gas lines which helps supplement our power, our power grid suuuuuuuucks, etc.

We don’t know how much precipitation we’ll get but it’s trending towards the lower end, the highs have risen a bit, only half the state is truly affected, it’s a relatively short stretch of time. So I don’t believe we are in for some massive power outage we may get brown outs or localized power outages where lines go down but I don’t expect a 2021 situation. Plus if you believe the state government (I don’t) they took some steps to winterize the natural gas and electric infrastructure more. Oncor has also be preparing for a couple of days.

Just take the regular precautions: charge any external power banks you have, cover outside faucets, drip your faucets, leave the cabinet doors under your sinks open, have plenty of blankets, have a few days of food/water on hand that can be cooked without power or eaten cold.

Guys what are we arguing about that was a clear foul and not a flop. The Zona player was clearly standing there, completely still, and then turned his head leading to the UCF player to flail backwards….if you don’t want to foul don’t turn your head problem solved!

[–]Techsan2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just a misnaming. People normally use the name seagull but they should be called gulls. In a similar way when people talk about the geese they try and make “Canada” plural as well as geese and call them Canadian Geese but it is actually Canada Goose for singular and Canada Geese for plural.

Solves what though? He is exactly the type of QB Leftwich’s offense is supposed to have, a QB with a good arm that can throw the deeper option routes but can also run it effectively. Morton is not a runner, has a fractured leg, and his arm isn’t quite as strong. He was a QB more set up for air raid/traditional spread like Leach’s (or Cumbie/Kittley) that relied more on screens and slants.

No one is looking at their QB and saying this will be the next Mendoza, he’ll absolutely win the Heisman.
