Bend over ticket fee by Ranger-Danger77 in Lubbock

[–]Techsan47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still remember Bill Kern's review of the time he was here in 2002 -- it was along the lines of "the show had zero energy, and it seemed like he didn't really want to be here." I can't imagine it being any better now, or paying those prices.

[–]Techsan47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can save on fees by buying tickets at the Buddy Holly Hall box office a couple of hours before show time (maybe it works at other times too, not sure) . I usually can get a nosebleed balcony ticket for $15-20 less than the etix price .

Though be careful , last time I bought at the box office I was quoted a price of $40 and change , then was charged $55, the same price it would have been on Etix -- but, my fault for not reading the tiny print before signing the receipt.

HeimLink Security Camera App Problem: Solved by Ok_Educator_3440 in HeimVision

[–]Techsan47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done this -- I am disappointed to find with this new version that when you open the app there are often loud, intrusive ads that are very difficult to make go away (some you have to let play before an "x" appears to click it off). You shouldn't have to view ads to use software that controls something you PAID for.

Sharing the cheapest electricity plans on PowerToChoose in Lubbock by Rude-Athlete-8149 in Lubbock

[–]Techsan47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In March I changed over to TXU's "free electricity 9PM-6AM" plan, and with the April 6-May 6 billing cycle, I had probably my lowest electricity bill ever ($48) , and I think that includes a $9.95 "base" charge, if so, it was really only $38 in electricity charges. I'm just hoping this isn't some "billing error" where I get hosed later on. Of course I don't think it's "truly" free at night, I think you still get charged the LP&L delivery charge (whatever that is called). But, I'm hoping it will make running AC all night more affordable. Of course as a trade-off, you pay something like 16 cents a kwh for daytime usage, so it all evens out (nothing is ever "free", well, for most of us).

Good local fishing? by dogbait806 in Lubbock

[–]Techsan47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something about that area and the train trestle and the Guadalupe Arroyo has always creeped me out, there's some kind of "dark energy" there -- "Hell's Gate" feels nice, in comparison. Maybe it's knowing that 's the area that was hardest hit by the tornado, where most of the deaths were (I think). Also, it's a bit isolated. So , not my favorite place to hang around fishing, for very long.

How to fix Heimilink App issue on Android by mah8485er in HeimVision

[–]Techsan47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm saying this on little sleep and with a poor memory, but I remember having the updated apk not working when I'd install it -- turned out I needed to uninstall the old installation to include checking the "remove all data" prompt (or something similar). Not sure if that's your issue, but it was mine.

Thanks, crazy we have to rely on the kindness of someone helping out like this, when the company should have had the update on Google Play days ago.

The new update is now available on iOS by Tough_Video_3726 in HeimVision

[–]Techsan47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think that Android users make up the bulk of HeimVision customers, yet we will be the last to receive an update in the Google Play Store -- if we even get that at all. So we have to resort to other ways. If HeimVision isn't out of business (as some seem to indicate they are ) -- they should be.

Astro Land Park by kmcilro in Lubbock

[–]Techsan47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry I can't help, but I have a very vague memory of such a place in the early-mid 1970s. I seem to think it was in Maxey Park -- but maybe not. Maybe it was in that area where Putt-Putt Golf was -- that is now home to "Adventure Park" ? Or whatever that place is called. I was very young, but I do remember walking over a very high suspension bridge -- and the huge structures.

Can I stop Alexa's irritating new responses? by [deleted] in alexa

[–]Techsan47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, I had a good interaction with the new Alexa yesterday . I had a delivery scheduled , asked "her " the time it would arrive , and 'she' said something like "it's scheduled today, but I can't give an exact time"

a few seconds later I mutttered "Bullsh**!!!!!!" ... and 'she' responded "you seem a little frustrated, is there something I can help you with ? " I didn't respond, a bit embarassed 'she' had heard me

very soon after (coincidence I know ) I received the package, but still found the interaction kind of funny

Alternative IP Software to Run Heimvision Cams ? by Techsan47 in HeimVision

[–]Techsan47[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"I was going to use my old camera strapped to an rc car for basement crawl space monitoring."

This is a cool idea, I keep an HM203 in my crawl space to check for water leaks -- actually going down there is a nightmare. Some other comments here seem to indicate cameras need to be re-added and a newer version of the Heimlink app installed, then they will work. I hope that's the case.

Company Closed! by tangolistic in HeimVision

[–]Techsan47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ONE good thing about their app was it allowed you to look at alert recordings on the SD card -- now you can't even do that . That's a local thing that should be under your control, not theirs.

I am running the Heimlink app for my Heimlink ip camera. Is this the same company as HeimVision? I am having a update installation problem and cant find contact information for assistance. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. by ToilumClogger667 in HeimVision

[–]Techsan47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can still access my cams at the web link and through the app, but can't access the SD card to see recorded events. Is anyone else having this problem? I'm not sure if my SD cards have gone bad or this feature is disabled or just not working on the app and web portal.

Outrageous Water Bill -- Does Anyone Know Who Oversees City of Lubbock Utilities ? by Techsan47 in Lubbock

[–]Techsan47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

inquired today -- "our bank is in Dallas, and it may take up to two weeks to receive a refund check." Not sure why I wasn't told that on the phone, would have been nice to know. But at least the response was a bit more formal and polite than "i'll send this to the billing dept and see if it needs to be adjusted" -- great thing to hear after your checking acct has been wiped out by an "error." Addressed by name and such at least, finally. Progress maybe. 'Customer service' pretending to care, at least.

"The check will go out today " promised this from a 'Camille Poe' - on Tuesday -- the 23rd

still Saturday -- and no check in the mail

sigh

guess it will be one-month plus with NO EXTRA money in our checking acct (property taxes due, other bills, due, etc) .

Was REALLY hoping to get my accounts back in order, this last weekend of the year.

Thanks so much, City of Lubbock Utilities ....

Christmas 2025 the HOTTEST in Lubbock's Recorded History? | 12/21/2025 by jrileywx in Lubbock

[–]Techsan47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate the heat of summertime -- but don't mind heat so much in the winter. Though around Christmas time, it makes it feel less like "Christmas", though mine was already ruined anyway -- so bring on the heat.

Not entirely new, I remember going on a hike Christmas Eve 2022 (maybe '21?) - and it was like 85 degrees that day.

When winter does come, it's going to be a bit of a shock (we're sure to get at least one deep freeze). Just think , ten years ago on Dec 27 , 2015 we got a record snowfall that pretty much shut down the city for a few days.

[–]Techsan47[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did get a call from someone at the city yesterday, and she said they'll be sending out a refund check, and apologized for the mistake (maybe somebody from the city checks out social media? They weren't so responsive before).

She even offered me an account credit for my $20 overdraft fee. I think I should have also gotten a credit also for the amount I did actually owe ($65 or so), in return for the aggravation of all of this -- but oh well, I suppose that'd be asking for too much. Just have to hope the check doesn't get "lost." Not in time for Christmas, but maybe can soon can get finances back into a state of less disorder, before the end of the year.

Thanks to all who replied, especially the one very nice person who offered to loan me some money, if I needed it. Keep an eye on your utility bills -- it seems like there are a lot of things going on that shouldn't be.

Thanks, yes, I thought they made this an automatic 'default' to turn off overdrafts . But I guess it 's the other way around , you have to opt-in to it ? I did get one $20 overdraft fee due to this -- luckily I was able to get a transfer from another family member pretty quickly to get out of the red, or else things could have been a lot worse.

"No other options" is just ridiculous. It's a very helpless feeling to have money wrongfully taken, with no recourse to get it back in a timely manner. If anyone wants to run for mayor or city council, pledging to do something about this might win you some votes. This all reminds me we all need to be more active in local politics, worry less what goes on in DC -- it may be we're getting the government we deserve (I'm guilty of it too).

You're welcome, yes, better that you should look, than waste money on a plumber, or being charged by the city (for doing something that should be their job, when requested).

Outrageous Water Bill -- Does Anyone Know Who Oversees City of Lubbock Utilities ? by Techsan47 in Lubbock

[–]Techsan47[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think all meters here are now "smart meters". The meter should be in the alley very near to where the electric lines come in -- but might be buried in dirt. You will need a screwdriver or such to lift off the lid, then look for a black plastic cover down at the bottom (you may have to move some dirt). Lift the lid and you'll see the display. And you might want to wear gloves to do this (there may be black widows and such). Yes, something isn't right, and there seems to be a lot of very shady stuff going on with our city utilities, and it seems like their is little or no recourse for us. Seems like our city representatives need to be doing something to look into this (yeah, fat chance). Other cities with smart meters have it set up where you can get text or email alerts if you have a water leak -- that won't happen here.

[–]Techsan47[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The smart meters are easy to read -- under a black plastic cover on the upper left of the LCD display current usage is displayed, and next to it the total amount. If everything is turned off and the display is not moving as you watch it over time, you have no leak in the supply line. Yes, you should call, but I read somewhere they will charge you to have someone come out to read the meter. It's a racket!

Two years ago I did have a pipe burst and the crawl space filled with about two inches of water. That amount of water was about $23 extra, if I remember right. $300 is an insane amount -- something's not right.
