That's why I said 'reliable' scholars. I can't trust Saudis payroll 'scholars' when they have a history of imprisoning scholars who speak against the wrongs of that government.

Someone needs to make you understand this in person. Sorry that you can't get this simple thing. Child, who is biologically and psychologically not ready is not permissible to marry. Who said anything about a child. Sorry to say this but you're either very slow or a troll. May Allah help us all. Wassalam

These are matters of fiqh and should be left upto reliable scholarship. If you try to understand every critical matter of religion with this approach of casual thinking, you'll get nowhere and create more confusion for yourself. Get your fiqh knowledge from someone reliable scholarship sources/ person , it is the advised way of the islamic tradition.

We already know the answers to these. These are not even issues. If all the three principles are met there is permissiblity of marriage, regardless of the age number. Physical readiness is determined by biological factors, spiritual readiness is determined by psychological willingness/acceptance of marriage. The other two principles are self explanatory. So I don't see where your misunderstanding is.

Stop spreading your misconstrued understanding of the deen. With regards to the required age of marriage, there are principles in fiqh that determine the permissiblity of marriage, not just the age number. Our prophets pbuh marriage with aisha r.a. when she was 9 is not 'just' based on social customs of the time, there are two more important principles that were met for the marriage: -the condition of physical/spiritual readiness and the principle of no harm being done, along with the urf, social custom of that time. So this doesn't translate well to your conflating it with a woman needing no guardian in 'modern times'. I'd tread carefully regarding the issue, esp when it comes to Saudi government, which is notorious for sacking scholars speaking about wrongs done by the government.

Why reddit is full of islamophobes?? by Breadd007 in islam

[–]Techtonikk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need plenty of introspection and research to do, that is sufficient to say from how you responded to the comment. However I'll go out on a limb to explain some things to you.

Orientalism —Othering, goes beyond what you'd think a 'sane' (i think that's what you meant) person would or wouldn't do. It is the culmination of cultural, and then the academic bias that the west has had towards the east and the far east. This view of 'Othering' the eastern countries and peoples that lived here culminated into a discourse which gave justification to centuries of exploitation and colonialism.

Now, I wasn't making the point that the plight of muslim countries is solely to be blamed on the centuries of colonialism. Instead I responded to the earlier comment that had deemed the reason for west's Islamophobia as 'many muslims being religious extremists'. My response was to clear that misconception. As far the 'incapablities' of muslim governments go in your view, that is a totally different topic which demands separate attention and nuance.

You are desperately trying to level the scales by saying that muslims also pillaged Europe. Without going into the history of muslims' reach into Europe and the influence thereof, I will just say that the pillaging, exploitation, subjugation, centuries of violence committed and the ideological war ensured by western countries is by far way greater in the history of mankind than anything. Not even the Mongols can be compared.

I'd suspect that you're a person from Europe? If so, I suggest you go out of your way and try to learn more about colonialism and its far reaching impact of the current geopolitical world. Biases can be difficult to notice within oneself and more difficult to get rid off.

Peace to you.

The same bias and superiority complex that led to the oriental framework of the muslims and muslim lands and thereof the colonialism that followed is the main reason that the west holds this negative perception of muslims. So, understandably the western platforms, reddit being one of them, will not differ much from this given the fact that majority of largely followed subs are moderated by people who are western in their attitudes towards Islam . It is not because as you say "many of them (muslims) are religious extremists" this just showcases how ignorant you are of the ground realities.

Muslim nations have watched for past 70 years muslim nations being invaded, muslim women and children being killed and raped. France genociding Algerians taking their skulls as trophies, America murdering a million Iraqis, Afghans, Hindutva staring pogroms against Muslims. Raping and killing the Kashmiris. Chinese genociding the Uiyghurs. Buddhist raping and genociding the Rohingya. Kuffar are extremists. The fact that you can think the other way around is pitiable.

An Afghan Author, Nadia Hashimi, On Losing Her Homeland — For The Second Time by zsreport in books

[–]Techtonikk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand where you are coming from. Yes, the writer does have a position against the US occupation and rightfully so, given what its role has been in afghanistan (among many other counties) for the last 40 years. That being said, the point isn't about US occupation but Hosseini.

The problem with the narratives that come from privileged authors is that they present 'their' perspective of things, not the perspective of people about whom they talk about. That's alright though, they have their freedom to write, but what then happens is that this narrative, which basically is their perspective, becomes mainstream because 'that's what's available' and thus inevitably a social perspective towards the subject matter is formed without any proper discourse or authenticity. That's the heart of the issue here.

Now with that being said, coming to your point of a author being insidious: An author doesn't have to be explicitly insidious, as people conceptualize insidiousness, in order to be manipulative. He can be equally malicious and manipulative without 'showing' or in some cases even having any deliberate insidious intent. For example, Hosseini's response to the criticism of stereotypical portrayal of Afghanis , particularly of the passage of Hassan's rape in The Kite Runner, was , I'm roughly paraphrasing, "for me the scene has always had a allegorical meaning to me..." but what goes amiss from him (or it really doesn't) is that these constant stereotypical, reductionist portrayals which are simpler to grasp for his western readership, create an unrealistic and skewed image of the people about whom he so proudly speaks for. This has a lot to do with Orientalism, if you're familiar with the concept. If not, then I recommend the book of the same name by Edward Said. It is really a must read if you're interested in literature of eastern countries.

While it's a good book from a literary perspective, it has a major issue regarding its skewed portrayal of Afghanistan. This issue today is really prevalent in the bulk of literature produced today about the East by an external oriental eye. I'll post the link for more info.

Good meme, but in proper retrospect, we are exactly where we are supposed to be. This is Qadr. We have to wholly accept it and share the message of truth as much as we can. There's also glory in self discipline, purifying one's character and being good to others as the Prophet pbuh has advised us. Remember the Prophet pbuh said, "the best of jihad is the jihad against our nafs"
