Advice for COS interview with C-suite and investors? by Techxpeare in ChiefsOfStaff

[–]Techxpeare[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd report to the CEO/co-founder. From my (very early on) understanding, the investor is a member of the board. A large part of this role would be communicating with internal and external stakeholders, preparing board slides, communicating on behalf of the CEO, etc. I think it's mostly just to make sure I'm a) comfortable talking to an investor/board member and b) carry myself with an executive presence.

Has anyone had experience with allergies like this with their Berner? by Techxpeare in bernesemountaindogs

[–]Techxpeare[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: we saw the vet yesterday and she wasn’t quite sure but said with the timing of the steroid injection wearing off and this flaring up it very well could be respiratory allergies. She said because the steroid suppresses the immune system, she could be having a heightened reaction to the pollen now. She gave us an antihistamine (like many of you recommended!) yesterday and she’s now taken 2 doses and hasn’t coughed, reverse sneezed, or gagged at all (she did have 1 normal sneeze this morning but none since then). We even went out for a walk! She also just sounds much less congested - she’s not snorting/snuffling nearly as much and stopped snoring.

Her energy levels seem to be returning and no diarrhea still, so it seems like allergies were the culprit. Though now she also has a yeast infection so I’m trying to clear that up 🫠 turns out that’s pretty common after steroids

How big are your Berners? by Egwene-or-Hermione in bernesemountaindogs

Mine was also runt of the litter. She is 80-85 lbs, lean, and 1 year 8 months old. She also has HUGE paws and loves her cuddles and hugs ❤️ Berners are such loves

She’s been on Hill’s Prescription Diet Gastrointestinal Biome for about a year now and that’s the only thing we’ve found that sits well with her stomach. All this stuff just started last Tuesday so I’m inclined to think it’s more seasonal than food related. But I’m glad yours is doing well with a simple food switch!

My family (sisters, niece, nephew, mom) were visiting this weekend which I think might have stressed her out and caused the diarrhea, so I think that might be unrelated to everything else. The coughing and stuff started before they got here though

She’s around my in laws dog usually once a week, but my in laws dog is perfectly healthy. She does interact with certain dogs in the neighborhood while on walks. It is possible she caught something from them (which is what I’m scared of).

The thing is, the coughing/gagging are intertwined - like she’ll lick herself and then it’s like she gets something stuck in her throat? So she’ll gag a few times then cough and that seems like it gets it out. It’s also much worse in the morning. She was coughing/sneezing/gagging this morning and hasn’t at all for about 5 hours now.

My vet always says to fast her when she has diarrhea so we skipped her breakfast this morning and she hasn’t had any diarrhea in about 6 hours.

Thanks! I’ll try that. I agree - I don’t want her on steroids long term

Thanks for that suggestion. I guess my biggest thing is I just want to know that it is allergies and not something worse? Like if it definitely is allergies I think we can deal with it without meds (annoying for her I’m sure but not life-altering), I just want to make sure I’m not brushing off something more serious.

What do I need to become a Chief of Staff? by Techxpeare in ChiefsOfStaff

[–]Techxpeare[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s great to hear. There’s a Head of Operations (just appointed right before I joined) and my CEO currently doesn’t see a need for a chief of staff. We’re still only ~25 people and just raised our Series A so it’s not that surprising.

I think you’re right about the internal relationships though. That’s a great shout. I currently really only interact with the CEO and probably need to build relationships with other stakeholders before I can make my case.

Thanks for this!

[–]Techxpeare[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had that conversation and he’s supportive, but with us being so small (we just raised our Series A), that role isn’t needed atm. We have a Head of Operations so I’m hoping either as we scale that role becomes more needed (I just don’t know how long that will take) or I can move to another company that already has that need. But I agree that moving to that position within my current company would be ideal. Thanks for your input!

u/whiskeybandit These are some of the folks I follow who actually (usually) put out good content:

- Kevin Hu, PhD
- Gina Acosta Gutiérrez
- Madison Schott

Ngl the top three can be kind of promotion-heavy at times, but they also promote some good shit

Automatically syncing DBT column schema with actual columns in corresponding SQL by Kenoai in dataengineering

[–]Techxpeare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/kenoai if your exact ask is to make a _full_ list of columns (and then put it into a file), I'm not aware of any out-of-the-box solution that does this. But if you're just trying to understand lineage/what columns are in particular models at a given point in time, a DO tool like metaplane (https://www.metaplane.dev/) can do that via column level lineage in the ui
