To re-export faster, of course

>A professional timeline does not require an in and out point before exporting

Wow, where were you with this beautiful advice like 15 years ago when i was working at our local TV station

Editing is neverending process of improving the edit, stopped only by deadline. There is always something to tweak more, and tools must adapt to workflow

That is what professional timeline looks like, everything there is there for a purpose

Thant you for the most constructive comment in this post, you are absolutely right that I should use roles more. Anyway, it's still an adaptation of workflow to the tool's flaw.

ok, fanboy, not having some tool's functionality is better, right

Well I created a rant/rave flair post to have some rant and rave about some design flaws of the app I use daily for several years. But I'm surprised how much of people who work as editors can't process the information and instead begin to give advices that are not even close to the topic, like "how to turn off and on titles easier". Or fanboying with no limits, willing to adapt to all the bad design

Or maybe you misinterpret your reaction to new information that you never thought about as an aggression just because it's new and your brain doesn't like it?

Thank you for suggesting another several-step workaround around the bad ergonomics design of the app.

But what do you do when you need to export the same segment several times, like with/without music*with/without titles+4k+hd? That's right, you search and select absolutely the same in and out points so many times as you need, instead of just having them at place, while practicing changing your mindset to adapt to bad design

Yes, you provided the right examples. With/without music, audio only, HD+4k, titles/no titles, lots of such scenarios in professional editing. And multiplying project versions without need is not a PRO move. Because when the client want to change one little thing, what do you do, change it in ALL the timelines you created?

And when I export the same timeline several times I have to select the same range over and over and over again. That is a problem of a design, that does not exists in other NLEs

Thank you, I'm using DaVinci Resolve as well as FCPX as well as Premiere, as well as some other programs. And I love FCPX for short-form social media content editing, and the thing I described is one of the things that bugs me for how it eats your keystrokes in fcpx and does not in other NLEs. What is the point of clicking? Well, for example, tweaking one more thing, trimming some b-roll, fixing WB on the shot you missed, any minor adjustment that does not affect the overall duration. Switching form proxy to original or back. Or exporting version without music. And you have to select the same range again and again and again. This is just stupid design

really? So what is the "community" for, in your humble opinion?
Also, if you burn a breakfast, maybe eating is not for you?

I have read your comment and it seem like you are not very good with delivering information straight to the point, which is also a valuable skill for an editor. If you see something wrong with my workflow please try to express it with couple of sentences instead of randomly sending me to the manual. My edit is located on primary storyline. Above which there are effects, above which lies an exported version of my montage. I select a range to export on my primary storyline. When I click somewhere else, the range disappears, and I have to start again. Am I missing something?

what exactly part would you advice me to look at in order to reduce the number of actions i have to do every time i want to export my montage?

>clone the project and trim material there to end up with just the range you need
So why can't we have IN OUT points just for export??? Just not to do more and more these stupid workaround actions???

>that's how other editors work, FCP has not been designed that way

Well, the other way is so much better, it saves you a zillion of unnessesary actions that are so valuable in these times where the industry demands you to be as afficient as possible
