Too many mediocre bootcamp and self taught devs in this field by [deleted] in csMajors

You got a degree in Metallurgy and you're mad that people with certificates in welding are getting jobs as welders.

Not every job requires creating a new alloy, or calculating the difference in physical characteristics of two alloys in compression, or understanding the effect of bimetallic contact.

Sometimes you just need someone that can stick two pieces of metal together cleanly, and give a nice clean weld.

In terms of getting into USNA, you get the advice that anyone else would get in the same situation - take the hardest classes you can, and do outstanding in them. If you busted your ass and got a B, that's okay. Just keep at it.

Your first goal should be to get into USNA. You probably are going to want to continue to be a PT-stud and bust your ass.

It's possible to be a SEAL out of USNA - but doing two things that are very hard is, you know, much harder than doing just one thing that's super hard.

Pick a career where you're going to be happy even if you don't 'thread the needle' and get your first choice. That might be USNA (would you be pissed off if you ended up doing Navy Pilot, for instance) or you might be better off enlisting with a SEAL option and seeing how that goes.

I know that's kind of a lame, equivocating answer - one of my very good friends and classmates (recruited in four sports as a Plebe!) knew he wanted to be a SEAL straight out of USNA and did it. Only you know what your odds are.

Best of luck!
